I know that they shoot, but that is it. I have a friend with a new barreled action. He will buy a Shilen in 308 prefit to replace the factory barrel. What are the trigger options and what is necessary to make the 308 feed out of the 30-06 magazine and follower? Thanks

I have built a 7-08 and a .243 on long action savages (both are pre accutrigger models). Both feed fine without any modifications to the magazines. I have a Sharpshooter Supply trigger on one and a Timney on the other. Both are fantastic triggers and much better than the factory ones. If i was forced to choose, I think I like the SS Trigger a hair more than the timney.

Thanks, I passed your reply to him.

you can also try the Rifle Basix triggers, i have one in my 300 Win mag build and it repeats the same crisp action every time I pull it. You shouldn't have to change anything in your magazine for the job you are doing.

Will he have to take the barrel off to measure the tenon before ordering the barrel?

The Accutrigger is a step down from the old triggers... the old ones can been tuned into a very decent trigger. I have reduced the underside of the bolt knob on a couple larger caliber cases because they battered the shooter's knuckle in recoil. The 308 should not be an issue, but they placed it poorly.
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Will he have to take the barrel off to measure the tenon before ordering the barrel? If you mean measuring for length he shouldn't have to but he does need to know if he has a large shank or a small shank barrel. A quick google search will get him all the info he needs to be able to tell. Small shanks are the usual and way more common. If he hasn't already, have your friend check out Northland Shooters Supply. They are a dealer for Shilen Savage pre-fits and have better prices than ordering direct from Shilen. For a common chambering like .308 they might even have something in stock and ready to ship.

Thanks for the advice. I will get the barrel for him as I get a pretty good price.

I went to Sharpshooter Supply to look at their triggers and it says they are discontinued. I'm guessing it is the same trigger mentioned above as I only saw one model.

I would read up on sharpshooter supply before I ordered anything from them. Like reviews. Or BBB rating.

SSS used to be awesome, but heard some negative feedback about them last few years.
