Well, we did it! Made short work of it on our 2nd night trying. 3rd week of February, a land owner I stay in the good graces of, gave me a call and said to get my butt over and get the damage tag he set up for me. We went out that night but all I managed to kill was a limb that snaked it’s way in front of my muzzle while the crosshairs were settled on a nice 2yr old cow... We went back the next weekend and hiked the two tracks in the timber for a couple miles and the kids stayed tough but we couldn't find the elk. I could see they were cold and it was raining pretty good so I decided to head back to the rig to patrol the fields for the last few min of legal light. Found a herd of about a dozen at 6:20 on the night of 2/28 and made a 430yd shot that dropped her with my family heirloom of a .30-06. My 4 1/2 yr old daughter, Jo, thought it was just as exciting as when we shot our doe last October but my son, affectionately known as Buddy, at 2 1/2, wouldn't hardly get close to it. He was petrified. Hope I didn't scar him lol That picture cost me a whole bribe bag of skittles. As soon as I got it he ran back to the rig and sat with the iPad til I had her broke down and loaded. Miserable pack out blasting around on the quad in the slushy rain and wind lol Nobody ever asked for a 2nd helping of antlers at my table...

James Pepper: There's no law west of Dodge and no God west of the Pecos. Right, Mr. Chisum? John Chisum: Wrong, Mr. Pepper. Because no matter where people go, sooner or later there's the law. And sooner or later they find God's already been there.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

Congrats on a successful hunt.....and “super” good job with having your kids involved. A great way to “stay” in each other’s lives! memt
