New to CAS. Bought a pair of Ruger SASS Vaqueros in 45 Colt and yesterday, my new Taylor 1873 Comanchero, also in 45 Colt arrived. Hope to go shooting Saturday. Going to start with HSM ( my research says they are RimRock bullets) 200 gr RNFP and Trail Boss. What would be a good OAL to start with, which would work in both. I read where OAL can make or break both firearms.

Thanks,

Alan

Load a round using the crimp groove, see if it works through the '73.
If it feeds from the mag ok, load enough to fill the mag.
Test again.

The rulers shouldn't be a problem, but check them after the rifle.

The crimp groove is where they SHOULD be seated.
And, it will probably be right.

Thank you Dillonbuck. After dinner tonight, I first ran 10 PAC A-ZOOM 45C SNAP CAPs through both the 1873 and the Vaqueros without a hitch. I then did as you suggested and loaded up 10 dummy rounds seating them just enough so a light crimp places the case mouth at the top of the crimp. The PAC A-ZOOM 45C SNAP CAPs had an OAL of 1.452'" and the dummies ran 1.47". All ran without a hitch.

Thank you,

Alan

You are welcome,

Not putting my shortcomings on you,
but sometimes we way over think things.

I needed to order rollerskate bearings, they come in 7 or 8mm id.
I measured with an sae dial caliper, then spent hours looking for
a conversion table on the web.

All of a sudden it hit me,
I know the digital equivalents to,
5.56
6mm
6.5
7mm
7.62
8mm
9mm
9.3

In my freaking thick head.

So, ........I reckon I shoot (284/7mm & 308/7.62)......nothing but 7mm’s. 🤓

45 LC is my number one revolver cartridge, BTW.
