AckleyFan,
Might you know if that scope mount is cast or screwed on?

As a shooter/hunter that has a 6.5WSM it has proved very effective on elk. I shoot one bullet, the Barnes 120gr TSX. AT 3400fps out of a 24" Bbl. I have taken 3 elk with three shots. All three elk were completely penetrated by this bullet. I have taken many elk over the years with the Barnes120gr 6.5 "X" & now the TSX .Never recovered one of these bullets & never lost an elk. With the way this bullet penetrates I see no reason for any thing heavier. The 120gr TSX at 3400 fps provides a very flat trajectory, quick time of flight & reduced recoil over heavier bullets. It is simple to load for . A once fired 270WSM run thru a FL sizer & load. No trimming required. Readily available dies & brass.

I’d probably choose 7 SAUM over 6.5 SAUM or even 6.5 GAP 4S, just because I prefer standardized cartridges over wildcats. However, I’m almost certain that there would be zero difference between them in performance on game.

I’d imagine one of each would be pretty cool, maybe in slightly different configurations to help differentiate their usage profiles a little bit. Something like running the 6.5 in a 22-23” mountain rifle and the 7mm in a 24-25” plains-style hunter. I could certainly be happy with these two for about all my hunting.

Dang! A 6.5 PRC with a 23-24” stainless sporter tube twisted around 8” just might be my Holy Grail. A 120 TTSX at 3250 or a 127 LRX at 3200 would be the cat’s azz.

How does the case capacity of the 6.5saum compare to the 6.5 PRC and the 6.5-06?

Happen to remember what bullet he used?

I think that the 127 LRX near that velocity would be perfect for any game animal at any reasonable range.

Nosler 120 Ballistic Tip with never an issue.

Nice action. I went with the Ultra Lite Deviant for a light weight saum for a hunting rifle, it's at the smith along with barrel ( K&P #5, 7.5tw, that's been fluted and cut to 25")
Have another saum built on a Deviant w/26" Marksman contour, in a MPA competition chassis, little heavy for packing around smile Love the saum round.

Another option that I like is the Defiant Rebel with integral lug in the XM length with control round feed then you could use Talley LW rings !

That is EXACTLY what I figured. Killed tons of schit with that bullet out of the 6.5x284 and quite a few more out of the .260 Rem. For some reason, back in those days I always went with the 125 NPT for elk, even though the 120 NBT gave tremendous performance.

I’m going to develop a good load for my 6.5 Creedmoor and the 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip.

I have a Remington 700 Ti in 7MM RSAUM and its pretty much been my "go to" rifle for several years. I purchased it for hunting mulies in the rugged mountains of west Texas, but since I'm not on that lease anymore it doesn't see much use. I'm now hunting pretty much out of a box blind so that 7mm isn't really necessary. My 7/08, 257 Roberts, and my new 6.5x55 are going to get the call for awhile.

That being said, my 7mm SAUM is extremely accurate. I'm loading 59.0 grains of IMR 4350 with a Remington 9-1/2 primer pushing a Barnes 140 gr. TTSX at 3050 fps. It shoots cloverleafs with that load. I have a Zeiss Conquest with the Z-Plex 600 reticle, but I've only had to use the 300 yard mark once and it worked.

The lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!
