I prefer the Ruger factory rings. In my experience with a modicom of care evenly torquing the rings you'll be within 1 moa after removing and replacing the scope.

It's been noted by some that those Ruger factory ring screws are a bit soft and tend to twist off. Has that been your experience?

I just reread what I wrote here and I've mixed them up with something else. apology.

Perhaps I should revise the point.

No tools required once mounted to remove and re install, 5 seconds to pull off or install, no parts to be lost, in a semi panicked moment, or fogged glass.

Why would you be putting on or taking off your scope in a panic?

I hunted AK with a pair of M77s for about 10 years and never had a scope puke, but I did try the factory rings at the range and they both returned to zero as well as any of the Warnes, Leupolds, or Talleys I've ever used. And you will likely have a knife you could use the back of to remove the rings if you felt the need. I always kept a Nickel in my pack in lieu of a screwdriver, took up less space and fit the ring screws pretty well. Just grip it with the little Leatherman that stays in the same pack.

Just trying to save you $75 or so.

I have Talley quick release rings on both my 375HH rifles, I love them, I switched from Warner rings awhile back and I’ve been happy. I love how quickly I can get the scope off and have access to the iron sights on my rifles.

I have two sets of Alaska arms llc quick detach on my 5lb 11oz 416 ruger. They work great. No regrets. Have had Talley, leupold and EAW on other rifles. eaw were by far my favorite. The Alaska arms second.

I can see why you'd like the EAW's.
For the Ruger, their lows are around .600" high, kind of tall for getting a good cheek weld. As to them being too tall (for me), I guess I'd have to mount a set and just see how they fit, but still, we're talking about 5/8" high off the Ruger rib.

Suppose I could just hang a key such as a nickel of electrical box punch out off a string hooked to my coat zipper of knife sheath for quick access. Okay.
Seein' the light.

Huh..?
Confused me there Rost. Figured the fellas gave me a simple solution to an overly thought issue I was curious about. I figured a "key" that I kept handy on myself would be a quick and easy way to pull the scope once I started boning out my moose.. I liked the idea. And my mouth, is sort of a quiet toned thing, so no worries about me getting loud. I never cared for the loud mouth crowd myself.

Just ignore him. smile

What (some) people are trying to tell you is you don't need to pull your scope off your rifle, period. Put a reasonable scope in a set of good rings that won't move and leave it alone. If something happens where having a 3-6 power optic will be a "handicap" compared to iron sites, you'll be pointing, not aiming.

Some people love QD rings, bring multiple scopes, and back up irons. And that's great. I shouldn't make fun - I bring a back up rifle a lot of the time. But don't go introducing variables into equations when the goal is to simplify.

I fell about 25-30 feet off a sheer face onto the rocks below once on Kodiak. Luckily my trusty M77 broke my fall when I landed on top of it, right smack on the vertical adjustment turret of my 1.5-5 VXIII. Aside from a torn ACL, mild concussion, bruised tendons and a cut that bled for 8 hours my only injury was a smashed front site. Completely destroyed and unusable were my trusty, "backup irons". The little Leupold held zero just fine and I've never sent it in or had any problems out of it before or since.

Buy good glass and go shoot stuff. I'd rather wade into the dingweeds with a good scope turned down to 1 or 2 power than any set of irons, if I absolutely have to wade into the dingweeds.

CWH2 and The Kid,

And Jeff, grin

Thank you. That explaination of "...if anything...you'll be pointing..." says it best, and I get it now, I see the scenario. That's practical and I like practical.

Thanks for clearing that up. "You don't have to take your scope off.."

The kid, good story, and good point. I've seen Leupolds bounce, my dad's got a story of his doing same.

I’ve broke three leupolds in the field, luckily had irons and those scopes on quick detach mounts. I don’t carry screwdrivers with me.

For sure. That's the beauty of solid irons..
In my case, I WILL be carrying a multi tool, or using the back of my knife blade (with other options for removal as well, I am sure).
The Ruger mount dismounts easily.

I prefer the looks of the Alaska Arms rings, I have several sets in use. Prior to a few / several years ago, I used used Warne, prior to "discovering" Morris / Alaska Arms in Big Lake (dang fine people !).
I still have 2 sets of Warnes in use for now, though have Alaska Arms rings to replace. One set is one a 338 Win and the other a 375 Ruger. They have been in use many years. I have used the 375 Ruger a bunch, many 4-wheeler and Argo miles. Never an issue.

I have the AK Arms for 300's, another 375 Ruger with some use, and a 416 Ruger with a bit of use; no problems with any, a great product.

I use detachable mounts for changing scope and rifle cleaning easy.
I by far trust the use of the particular scopes that I have, than my use of irons if low light or any tight situation that I can think of.

Never measured. I can fit my fingers under my scope and carry my rifle by my scope. I do have smaller hands though. Seems like a perfect height. More like a medium in other rings id guess?
Call Morris at Alaska arms. He’s an awesome guy to chat with.
