I have a 71 336 with a weaver style base and rings sporting a Nikon 3x9. I recently got a new 336C for my son and want to put my Luepold Ultimate Slam 3x9x40 shotgun scope on it but can’t decide on a mount and ring set. I have always been partial to Leupold scopes, mounts and rings. Has anyone used the Leupold QR set-up on a 336?
Is there a better set up to use? Thanks

look here..........I like Burris Signature dovetail style rings.......rear windage adjustment........

this base will work.......or.........go cheap with a Weaver style base.......

but then use Burris Signature Zee rings.....plastic insert.......no slip/no scratch.....

your 40 mm bell may be an issue with clearance.......straight tube 20 mm's go nice on lever guns

The trick I've found with Marlin 336's is that you need the scope as low as possible because the comb of the stock is low for the use of iron sights. I don't think your 40mm bell will do this. I use Leupold straight tube 20mm scopes on all my scoped Marlins. The best, and lowest combo I've found is using Warne weaver type bases with Burris low zee rings. The super low Burris ring is even better but no longer in production. It's difficult to get a good cheek weld with anything much higher.
Good Luck,
Rick

This right here. I have a 1-4x20 Leupold in super low Burris zee's on my 336.

Extra low Tally Rings.....perfect for scopes up to 32MM front bell. Why add weight to a sporter carbine rifle when you don't have to...

Would Low or Medium Talleys allow for the 40mm bell?

Those dovetail base and rings are heavy, and... coupled with a largish scope, throws off the balance in my opinion.
I like a flat weaver style base, and low rings with a smallish scope, but would prefer a base that didn't hang over the barrel if I could find one

Have also used a B-square(I think) base with a bunch of slots. And it was a bit taller than the regular Weaver style. But, being tall on the sides and low in the middle, it was kind of good with the scope off and open sights because it seemed to act as an extra alignment aid for quick shots.

I have used 3.5-10x40 Leupold with the Leupold base and Leupold and Redfield low rings. Snug fit but ample clearance with stock rear barrel sight.

I would verify with a phone call to Tally yet feel the "Low" Talley rings should be fine.

Anyone using the XS sight system with quick detachable rings? I’m putting together a 336 in .35 Remington and am thinking this might be a good way to go with an intermediate eye relief scope?

Warne (aluminum) one piece base or (steel) two piece bases and Weaver rings. I don't like fixed scope mounts on rifle with open sights. My personal preference . Just in case don't you know.....

I have an EGW 1-piece locating style base with Warne quick detach rings. I think it is a great set up. PM me your cell number or e-ma if you would like pictures

By the way, I have a Leupold vx-2 2-7x33 on that 336. I would guess the rings are lows, but I can try to check if you are interested. I believe the EGW base is alloy, so that helps with weight. Spell check must have changed “ Picatinny” to “locating” in my post above

on my marlins i use the talley lightweight low or extra low and scopes like the leupold 1.5-5x20. i have pretty much converted all my marlins to this setup. the one exception uses the talleys but has a cheapo bushnell sportsman 4x32. its a bigger scope but the FOV is great and points so naturally its like having a 4x eyeball.

I use the Burris Signature rings for a Weaver base with a Weaver base.Stick a VX2 2X7 on it and you are good to go.

If you use a Weaver base and Warne QR rings, you could use the open sight if you wanted to.

I used Burris Rings and one piece Burris base on my Marlin 444. It worked perfectly with a Leupold VX11 2-7x33. A different scope might require a different set-up?
