I am interested in a specific Manchester-produced Interarms I found for sale. Other than a used Interarms 270 I picked out for a friend over 10 years ago, (because of it's price and which proved very accurate), I don't know much about them.
any thoughts appreciated. I've been a hunter and reloader for 40 years but just not very familiar with this brand.
thanks

Not a GW but it's a commercial Mauser made in Yugoslavia by Zastava imported by Interarms. Great actions with adjustable triggers that I have always found accurate enough. If you don't mind the weight you really can't go wrong.
Same basic rifle is still being manufactured and imported today.

If the price is right, they're excellent rifles. I'd prefer an FN if the price was comparable, but not because the Mark X is lacking.

Manchester was just the location of one of Interarms offices/warehouses.. Your gun is in fact a Yugoslavian made CZ-Zastava m98.
The clues that the gun is NOT an English made rifle are-
1)There are no made in England markings 2) There are no British Proof marks.
If you take the stock off the rifle you will see a "Made in Yugoslavia" stamp along the rear action tang

CZ is Czech. Zastava is Yugo. And I don't believe they ever met. Manchester was just the location of one of Interarms offices/warehouses.. Your gun is in fact a Yugoslavian made CZ-Zastava m98.

Exactly.
That said, the Mark X actions are basically good copies of the FN actions, made of good steel. The only real difference is FN's are usually better-finished, but I have seen some early Yugo actions that were very nicely made.

Wrong....Do a little research. "CZ " is a Slavic abreviation for "Weapons Factory".. The CZECH factory names are actually CZ-BRNO', " CZ-UB" (Uhersky Brod) etc. In Yugoslavia it is "CZ- Zastava"...Always has been.

CZ stands for Ceska Zbrojovka, which means Czech arms factory. not just "arms factory". Arms (weapons) factory in Serbian is фабрика оружја (fabrika oružja).

The Mark X is a good one, basically the poor mans Mauser. Still good quality, but not the FN price. Zastava made. CZ is not the same, neither factory or country of origin. Yes they both made the basic Mauser 98 actioned rifles, but they are not the same.

Actually I nod not fully finish my above post.... CZ in terms of Zasatvas in Yugoslavia..stands for "Crvena Zastave". which is the full company name.. So it is still "CZ"and that is why if you look closely, all Zastavas are stamped with a "CZ" logo.

I think the GB prices are getting closer together for the two. I've also seen some "FN" rifles for sale that were suspect. Again, no biggie as to quality or function, but maybe a bit for resale value, if that's an possibility at some point.
I'm kind of full up with Mausers right now (I have one), but I check now and again, especially for the small-ring Brownings, which I only recently discovered. Huskys are nice too, but for some reason the ones I see all look like they were kept in the barn.

again, i do appreciate the input.
Now I already have a rifle for virtually every conceivable situation, so am plum out of justifications/rationalizations. stuck with just "I like it and want it." that's on me!

Zastava's are called CZ. I've seen the stamp many times. Confusing as they have nothing to do with CZ in Czech.
