Hi, found a Winchester RH, SS, Syn stock, New Haven, Boss, Mod 70 (A) G-6 digits-1, CRF. Pretty good condition. I know Boss isn't all that popular. I don't really need it, so I don't want to overpay.

Thanks!

Set the BOSS on 2 , if it cloverleafs.... offer 6 but give 650-700 if you have to, mine was a tackdriver, guy that was with me when I bought it and Zeroed it pestered me for 20 years, he and both his kids are bang flopping whitetails with it now, I nailed 30 + with it working out of the 2 boxes of ammo I bought with the gun and scope new, Fed Prem ,165 gr BT's.... winpoor

It's in pawn shop, so I don't know how it shoots. Haven't put my hands on it. It has some kind of Burris Full Field (but they couldn't verify Full Field II) 3.5 -10 x 50 on it. I can get it for $742 out the door with tax.

Price is OK, IMHO, but if you don't like the BOSS (and 75% don't) it's only about $45-50 to cut the damn thing off and re-crown..

I don't like the looks of the BOSS, but I'm more into "if it works, OK" rather than looks. It's about an hour away to see it. I think it is a mid-eighties gun. Ser. is G-18XXXX-1. I'm not sure about the "-" but that what the add says. I may call them back and see if I can get better pics. I think the gun does show use. I can see some scratches on the scope, but can't really determine the metal condition.

There is no dash in the serial number. G18xxxx would be 1996. Great guns if you truly only care about "works" and not "looks". Or you can take Redneck's advice and chop it off, but it will still say BOSS on the barrel. Good luck.

Price is very good, especially if you can get $100 or more for the scope.

First, thanks for all of the comments. I appreciate the help. OK, a bit better info...I called and the lady said it read Winchester Model 70 Classic Boss on the barrel. Also confirmed New Haven. The serial number I posted was an inventory number. The serial number is G13XXXX. She said 4 more digits after the 3. Fullfield 3.5-10x50 with what I interpret as a duplex. It might be worth the hour drive to see it.

Spud. If you can stand the looks, leave the BOSS on it. It’s nice to pick the load you want and then tune the barrel to shoot it into small groups.

G13xxxx would be 1995. Just as good.

Yep if one wants a BOSS, the price is good, as well as the scope.

I've heard a lot of dislike about the BOSS over the years, but I have heard more people admit that it does work. The reality is I'm a lefty, but I've developed a really bad gun buying habit! There should be a 12 step program for this condition. I just can't stand seeing a good rifle at a good price get away. I've got probably a dozen guns I need to get rid of, but I like to go shoot them all first just for the hell of it. I bought an old beat-up Mauser 8MM-06 a few months back. Took it out the other day and shot about 20 rounds sighting it in and shooting 200 yard gongs. In the end, I was banging the 200 yard 8 x 10 in. gong on every shot. That doesn't say much for accuracy, but it is fun. The gun looks like crap with a Ramline stock that doesn't fit that well, rattle can paint halfway off the barrel, solder still on from the removal of the front sight, but I had a blast. I haven't owned a Winchester yet. I would be curious to see how well I could get this to shoot with GS Custom HVs. It might be a good experiment. Maybe I could find a lefty in something bigger down the road. My choice for mule deer and elk last fall was the 375 Ruger.

The scope is probably worth more than the rifle grin ... seriously though, the rifle about $625, the scope was a 1 time run and could sell for $200 +pretty easily. Retail was $350.00... Im assumin, if you were to cut the boss off, you'd be left with about 21" of barrel. To most, the boss is thd least desirable model 70 made..

I had a M70 with a BOSS in 300 Win Mag in the mid 1990s. It was a very good shooter and I killed a couple of elk with it but I did not like the look, the noise or the extra length.

It was a real pain with the sling and the additional 3 inches around the oak brush.

I understand the BOSS dislike. They seem to do OK on GunBroker though. I have a 338 WM A-bolt with a 26 in tube and a MB on top of that. I can usually pick up 3 local TV stations when I'm out in the open. Not friendly in close quarters/forest though. I understand that you can buy a cover or something for the BOSS. I need to check that out if I spring for the gun.

I called Burris about the scope. I couldn't get much info. It isn't a FFII, just an original FullField. They said send it in for a lookover/freshen up. No charge...
