Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

And Retch Sweeney, and Goombaw. The Night The Bear Ate Goombaw is one of my favorite reads. I can't even begin to count how many times I ended up out of breath and with sore ribs from laughing so hard at Pat's ramblings. One can only imagine what it would have been like to share some of those life's experiences with him.
Rest In Peace, Pat.
You made us laugh a lot.

They shoot canoes don't they?
I regret now never taking the opportunity to meet him when I had the chance several years ago.
Rest in peace Pat.

My wife and I hosted a middle school age group of kids for an overnight camp out.... I played an Audible version of The Night The Bear Ate Goombaw.... the kids thought it was pretty funny. I did notice that as the campfire began to die down later that night, some of the young ones had bigger startle responses to the night time woods sounds.....
Thanks for the memories over many years Patrick. You were one of a kind.

Maybe my favorite humorist.
Who can forget "Thath the lasth timeth I eatf myf peasthf wiff myff huntinff kniff." (That's the last time I eat my peas with my hunting knife!)
Developed many a sore belly laughing uncontrollably while reading his column in Outdoor Life.

One of the absolute best right here; my sons have heard his stories at bedtime for years and we’ve laughed an awful lot together over them.
RIP

At some point I realized I've been reading him since the early Outdoor Life columns and just assumed he was 84 then! Some of us just get to be old curmudgeons earlier than others. Truly a gifted humorist and one of the few that consistently made me laugh out loud. I think I have everything he's written. RIP.

I'm sorry to hear this. Memory eternal and RIP Mr. McManus.

He had a web site that was decommissioned back around 2015. You can find a archived copies of his (and "Buns") postings and blogs at Official website at the Wayback Machine (archived February 12, 2015)He was truly a literary treasure to the outdoor world.

I remember going to my Grandparents house and my Grandpa having a large collection of Outdoor Life. I think I started reading every magazine by reading his stories. RIP to a writer who really helped me have a love of reading.

dang. diminished for sure. I loved his self effacing humor and character development. I felt like I'd fished with Rancid a number of times.
