That is a great video.

There are elements to doing "the firewood" that may not be compatible with gettin' old in my particular body. We'll just have to see. For instance, the vibration from my saws really messed with my hands this year. But at the end of the day I've been doing it for 25 years and I love it, so, hopefully 25 more.

A couple fun pics. First, this is the fir after I cut the felling wedge. Let your mind decide how big it is.

Made some headway splitting until the [bleep] handle broke on the maul. Worked the soreness out anyway. I bet this is the 8th handle I've put on this maul. I've tried many different mauls but I come back to this one. It's got a relatively light head and is very simple. None of the goofy stuff hanging off the head that you see on fancypants mauls at the hardware store. That stuff sucks ass anyway for the woods I usually split. Simple is better, and I like he light head because it goes FAST.

that should burn a few calories laugh

I was in the logging business for 5-6 years in my younger days (married the bosses daughter!)- it’s definitely a young man’s game

here’s what date night looks like in Montana, got about 5” of new snow and found about 2’ of old snow on this trail- I did take my wife out for a nice Thai dinner afterwards though smile

Work schedule had me getting up early and walking the dogs. While at work I'd slip away every so often and knock out some lunges, which adds up over a twelve hour shift. After work I do my burpees, always pushing to complete them faster without half assing any of them. Simple, brutal and effective. Heading to the store to try to find a decent weight vest to help me make more progress.

^ I ordered a vest (Amazon) after getting a bunch of feedback- it’s a 20 lb (adjustable) Human X, haven’t got it yet, but plan to use it for chin/pull-ups, dips, box jumps and maybe even take it outside for hill repeats

3+ hours running chain saw.

The fir I dropped missed where I was aiming by about 5 degrees and horked up
a big oak. Oops. Dropped the other half of that, and cut it all up today. Whipped.

We hiked into Kentucky Falls and back out. Approx 5 miles, steep canyon as you can see. Two rivers come together here; the North Fork Smith, and the Kentucky. So these waterfalls are about 100 yards apart.

8 miles with ~25 lbs yesterday. Quite a workout toward the end when I was postholing in 3' deep snow. I am definitely acclimated now, I spent a decent amount of time around 11k and didn't feel bothered by it.

6.5 miles with my wife and Tiny E; wife was getting a little crabby with the post holing, fortunately we got out of it as we climbed higher

Tiny E wasn’t complaining, he found a fresh scapula from a mule deer fawn that still had some fresh meat on it laugh

Indeed. I seem to suck at capturing the sheer scale of "stuff". I tried, by including Cyn in the one pic, but it just doesn't seem to translate. Anyway, those are pretty good sized waterfalls. smile

We have so much freaking water here it's astounding. I've got a year-round creek on my land complete with cutthroat trout... and it's like "meh". Doesn't everybody?! smile
