Never understood why people drag deer, unless they are one of a few of those fugged up states that require a deer be whole. Which makes no sense to me, but they are typically Yankee states and not much of anything makes sense there.
The hide has to come off, might as well be 2 miles out and you can't eat the bone, might as well get rid of that too.
A 60 yard drag is one thing, a 2 mile drag is stupid.
Do you wrap the quarters in cheese cloth, or ???? I've always drug mine out. Do you take in a tarp to lay them out on while cutting them up or??? From the standpoint of a "dragger", seems like a lot of gear to carry, at a time when I'm trying to cut back on how much I carry in my pack.
All I had here was a pack, a knife and some line. This deer went straight into the pack, it was only a 1 1/2 miles out. I've also used game bags before, but that is the only thing extra and they take up no room.
As Travis said, just use the hide as your tarp. A stump in the clear cut where it fell came in handy too. The meat has to come of the deer at some point, might as well be where I killed the deer.
