Well, after reading about everything I could find on the Model 1920, asking questions and looking at examples over the last 20 or more years I finally made the commitment. Found an example that would seem to satisfy me. Photos at GunBroker Ref No. 795688428. It is an original configuration Model 1920 in the 8000 serial range. It does not have the Lyman 54, and is not drilled and tapped. That isn't real important to me since I will be shooting mostly for fun. I wanted the original, lightweight configuration specifically. I had hoped to get it a little cheaper than I did, but it's a very nice clean rifle. A few minor scuff marks on the stock, but nothing serious. The metal looks really nice with very little blue wear. I cleaned it a bit yesterday, and the bolt operates very slickly. Fascinating little action. Only downside, I wish Savage had taken better care when they checkered the stock. Some places it looks like the checker only took a single pass with the cutter. No concern, because I noticed this on many of the others I've looked at. All in all, I am very pleased with the little gun and am looking forward to range time with it and the 250-3000 cartridge. Finally, ahhh.

Thanks 99 Guy, When I tried to connect with GunBroker I couldn't get it to work. Now was trying photobucket and photo images, but also with no success. I apologize for making it so difficult to see pictures. I was comparing prices of contemporary rifles for the 1920, and it was not cheap. 1929 Stoeger had the 1920 at $45.00, the Winchester 54 @ $48.00 and Remington 30 @ about $45. Interestingly enough, the Savage 99 was approx $35.00 if memory serves me correctly. It was ahead of it's time!

Agreed, however the price level was not uncommon. Got what I wanted, and nice ones do not come along often. This one was unmolested, which was important. In addition, the gun was in Virginia, only a couple of hours away so was able to drive and pick it up saving about $70 dollars in shipping and transfer fees. I hate having to have guns shipped. The seller was enjoyable to deal with and great to talk to.

Sometimes those conversations and personal connections needed to "finish a deal" are literally priceless! Good guns are personal and personal experiences like dealing with your seller makes the deal, and you, just "richer." Not about the $70 (although as a good Scot, I wouldn't sneeze at that, either....).
The first time I heard the designation ".250-3000" I knew I had to have one! At the time, about 1951, I was at the .410 and .22 single shot level, tho. I had that dream, and I'm glad you attained yours.
