I'm looking to mount a scope on a rifle with max ring spacing of about 4.65 inches. Does the old leupold vari-x iii 1.75-6 short tube have enough tube length for this ring spacing? I need a compact scope because of iron sight issues a and this seems like a good option.

You may have to explore other mount options...

That's the info I needed. Thanks! I might have to get the file out.

Get a low profile, multi slot rail base if one is available for your rifle and set the rings where you want. If you don't like the part over the loading port a two piece base is only a hacksaw and file away.

I have a Leupold 1.75x6x32 Vari X III made in 1995.
The space between the front bell and the rear eyepiece is 5.5"

The Stoney Point turret is aftermarket.
I killed 3 deer with that set up in 2010.

In 2017 I got two similar scopes and tried mounting them on similar set ups
VX-6HD, 2-12X42mm, 171558
VX-6HD 3-18x44mm 171565
They may look the same, but the larger front objective bell shortens the ring space.

Well, that's awesome. But the OP was asking about the compact version and hangunnr answered that earlier.
Also, we didn't get the prices on the uber-relevant VX-6HD's you mentioned, and, where they were purchased.

I see. So, ahhhh, she's grown weary of your semi-savant tendencies and ramblings too? smile
