Why do all the shooters have DEEP ties to govt in one way or another? In this instance it's because the government was attempting to do it's job. The only reason sighted for this guy having "ties to the government" is government action due to his status as a wack-job. But then they gave the guns back. I wonder how they justify that? Especially with all the narrative about confiscating nut job firearms... WHY in the world would they give them back? Perhaps for the same reason they never bothered to take the FL shooter's gun through due process when they were made aware of him several times, and the threat he posed? Why would they give them to dad? Might have something to do with the 4th Amendment.

Authorities say the suspect in a deadly shooting at a restaurant in Nashville was arrested last year by the U.S. Secret Service for being in a restricted area near the White House.
Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron said 29-year-old Travis Reinking's firearms authorization was then revoked at the request of the FBI, and four weapons were seized, including the AR15 that he allegedly used in the shooting at the Waffle House restaurant early Sunday. Four people were killed.
Aaron says the four guns were returned to the suspect's father, who acknowledged giving them back to his son.
We don't need to go that far. If his son was a prohibited person, 4 counts could be what, 40 years?

I would like to find out who in the FBI gave the order for the guns to be given to the father. I suspect it was someone in a black robe. Anakin Skywalker?

Shooter was known to FBI. FBI requested his guns be taken because he was a nutjob. Local police seized guns. FBI gave guns back to shooter's dad. Dad gave guns back to nutjob son....Any questions? Who is media blaming? That's right... The AR15.  Should the dimwit dad be held responsible for the murders? Absolutely accessory to murder. I'm not an attorney and I don't play one on TV, but I think that the shooter's Father will soon be drowning in civil litigation.

Time was that people like that were locked away and our country was a better place.
Mike A Schizo was let out a few months ago here in MN., and moved in with a mother and son. Stopped taking his meds and used a pipe wrench last week to kill them. He called 911 and said, to some and arrest him cause he did a bad thing. Don't worry, in the Waffle House case, the media and anti-2A's will dutifully rail against guns call for more "common sense".
My home is the "sanctuary residence" for my firearms.

Absolutely correct every time one of these events takes place, a piece of the Second Ammendment is chipped away. That is why these events are so widely publicized. Eventually the Second Ammendment will be repealed and then all other nine Ammendments in the Bill of Rights will follow. Great nations are destroyed from within and the United States is on borrowed time.
The CDC recently published a report that the majority of instances involving firearms deterred a crime. About 2.5 million times a year. Heard about it several days ago and read it on Fox News today. Certainly not a headline, you had to look for it. Buried several layers deep. MSM will not publish this report because it doesn't fit their agenda. Sorry state of affairs.
And by the way, you are correct, even the government can't be this inept without putting some effort into it.

Aug. 24, 2017, sheriffs deputies Tazewell County, took a state-issued card from Reinking that Illinois requires for someone to own a weapon. Tazewell County Sheriff Robert M. Huston said Reinking volunteered to give up his four weapons. ► Reinking's father was present when those deputies came to confiscate the guns, Huston said. The father had a valid state authorization card and asked the police if he could keep the weapons. ...Deputies gave Reinking's father the weapons. "He was allowed to do that after he assured deputies he would keep them secure and away from Travis," Huston said, referring to Reinking's father. Anderson said he believes under Illinois law, guns seized can be returned to someone who has a valid state authorization.

Reinking , Some previous history ......
May 2016, the Tazewell Sheriff's Office responded to a call involving Reinking, according to police reports obtained by the Peoria Journal Star.
Reinking told law enforcement he thought Swift was stalking him. Law enforcement took Reinking to a local hospital for an evaluation.
June 2017, police records state Reinking threatened someone with an AR-15 while wearing a pink dress. After threatening the man, Reinking drove
to a public pool and dove in before exposing himself to others at the pool, according to the reports.
When police contacted Reinking's father, the father said "awhile back he took 3 rifles and a hand gun away and locked them up when Travis was
having problems. (The father) wanted to move out of state so he gave them back to (Travis)…” the reports state.
Police told Reinking's father “he might want to lock the guns back up until Travis gets mental help which he stated he would."
The next month, Reinking was arrested at the White House.
In early August, Reinking again told local law enforcement he thought he was a victim of hacking and that people were trying to get him to break the law.
Later in the month, police came to take away Reinking's gun, the Illinois records show.
"(Reinking's father) was advised that he needed to keep the weapons secure and away from Travis. (Reinking's father) stated he would comply,"
reads a police report.
