Pocono is slipping. The 270 fwt is a lot more rare than say a 30-06, and they demand more money. When i found mine, it took me a while. However i was looking for just the right early one. I paid for it too, but it was damn nice. $1350.00 worth of niceness... there out there though, but you have to be patient if you are looking for cream of the crop. If you are looking for shooter grade rifles, they are easier to find. Its a matter of where you look and how often and how serious you are..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I thought FW .270 first year was 55? Yeah, well that one has a different bolt too. Could be a re-barrel as well. However, the serial# indicates it was made in '55... Take your chances with that one is all I can say. Seller seems to be pretty honest with listing though.

Keep looking. There is one out there with a scruffy stock and or a pad that will get the price close to your goal. Tung oil does wonders until you are ready for the McMillian.

Be patient, they are out there. Keep in mind, they are going to be harder to find than a 30-06 fwt. Did scott sell his in the classifieds yet? I believe he did, that's the condition I'd like to buy one in.

There it was. Don't think you'll find a better one under a grand. Good snag AK.

I don't blame the guy for buying it, I'm in the market and I'm not in any big hurry, I've gotten, I knew about the rifle before the sale, No need to bite my head off. I'll know when I see it.

I sent Model70fan the pictures several days ago when I saw his WTB. I understand his statement about "I'll know when I see it". I'm the same way. I have one just like what he is talking about setting up, Pre 64 FW in 270, McMillan Edge stock with a Z3. It was a freckled stock (bad) born in 55, but immaculate on the metal and down the bore. Took the stock off , refinished (gasp) the stock and put it in the safe never to be seen again. The McMillan will stay on the barreled action. I know this will shock a lot of people, but it will shoot too.

That was a good deal on lynntelk's rifle. Like i told the op in a pm, a lot of the 270 fwt rifles are going to look like that one. It seems 270 shooters bought those things and used the hell out of them. When you run across a primo 270 fwt, you better jump on it, even if you have to pay a premium. When i was in search for just the right rifle, it took me 2 years to find it. As of now, i have no interest in owning another 270 rifle. Not that they are bad, just that i prefer the 06 more. I will say, my smith said the most accurate pre 64's (from what he saw) were the 270 rifles. The 270 i had, was absolute truth to that statement. Good luck to the op, the right one will come along.

I found a nice one/sleeper, sent the op a PM..... Gees thanks bro... I found just the right one for you too. It's going to need a barrel, stock and trigger... Hey, by the way. I found the twin to your daughters rifle. Very good deal. Has a leupold vx2 3-9x40 on it and they only want $650.00.... Your wife and daughter could have matching rifles... Or you could use it too, if you are ready to step out of the closet...
