I’ll first start by saying, I messed up. I had 2x Interarms Magnum (so I thought) actions. I purchased these actions with stocks, reloading equipment and ammo for 375 H&H and 458 Win mag. I sent out of the actions to have rebarreled to 375H&H. When I got it back, I put together the rifle and found it was NOT a magnum length action. I spent a pretty good amount of money to have this rebarreled. I have 2 options: 1) Open up the action slightly to accept the 375 H&H and get the correct bottom metal. Is this is doable? 2) Buy a 375 H&H Mark X locally for $500 and swap the barrel + bolt if this is even do able. I can recoup the cost by selling the old action and other parts. I’d prefer not to do this because I also had my action ceracoated.
What does the campfire recommend?

Is this the same action you are trying to sell in the classified as a 375H&H action?

Having your action altered and then altering or buying bottom metal to suit 375 H&H length is probably going to cost you more than $500. Assuming it's in good condition, if you buy the rifle you're probably already break even. Add the cost of ceracoating, then part out what you have surplus.

Is there enough shank on the barrel to set back for 375 Ruger? Would need to be creative with gap between barrel and stock.

I built a 340 Weatherby ( same case length as 375) on a 7mm mag Mark X action. My gunsmith simple opened up the action to 375 length. The bottom metal stayed the same. Feeds the cartridges with just minor adjustment of the feed rails. Interarms Mark X actions came in 375HH but they were just opened up regular mag actions (7mm mag, 300 win mag). My 340 Wby has had about 500 rounds fired through it over the years with no problems.

An interesting option would be to look at the Accuracy International or CDiPrecision removable magazines for M98 rifles, some of the mags are supposed to hold 3.60 inch rounds. Bottom metal and mag aren't cheap but are a bit less than good H&H length bottom metal. http://www.cdiprecisiongunworksstore.com/mauser-98-large-ring-magnum-magazine-dbm-remington-798/No first hand knowledge of these so, as always, do your research.

My recollection is that the action is the same length, just opened up a bit in the feed ramp area, and, you can open up the magazine, too. Back in days of yore there were quite a few articles about opening up Mauser type actions Like this: I built a 340 Weatherby ( same case length as 375) on a 7mm mag Mark X action.

I have an older Herters commercial M98 action originally in 7mm RM, looked at opening the action up to 3.6". To go beyond 3.5" would require new bottom metal along with other modifications. At least on that action, it's not as easy as it sounds. My plan changed from 375 H&H to 375 Ruger for that action (when the time comes to build it).

the bottom metal is the exact same bottom metal as would be on a regular Winchester magnum action except that the front of the box is cut off and a lengthening piece is welded on to fit the longer .375 cartridge.
