Very nice.

I never did care for any of the sausages I ate in New Zealand.....sort of an English sausage I suppose.

From what I've read English sausage is a larger version of our breakfast sausage with a lot of sage and some type of bread filler that makes them pop when cooked. I'd try it if I could get my hands on some but if I have to make it with the Brats again I'm OK with that.

I would say that is a fair description.

I guess once you got over the fact that none of the sausages tasted like any you were familiar with......they were not so bad.

When you think about it the Germans know a thing or two about sausages so using Brats can't be all that bad.
My understanding is that the English started putting the filler that makes "Bangers" go bang when you cook them during WW2 due to a shortage of pork.

Link I looked at said "Cumberland" sausage.

I never knew why they were called bangers. Very interesting.

I can't remember where I read it but a quick search came up with this cept it says WW1....

Bangers are so-called because after the First World War there was little meat in sausages -- just scraps, cereal and water -- so they sizzled and spluttered a lot when they were frying. It sounded as if there were mini explosions, or bangs, going on, hence the name bangers

http://virtuallinguist.typepad.com/the_virtual_linguist/2010/09/why-are-sausages-called-bangers.html

The more I read the more I'm inclined to think that the English aren't aware that seasonings and spices exist and they don't know chit about sausage making. I should have known they'd be ignorant since my ancestry is mostly English. frown smile

Mace and nutmeg in English sausage is akin fennel in Italian Style sausage from my POV. Can’t stand fennel in sausage. For years as a kid growing up the only Italian style sausage I ate was from my Maternal Grandfather whos parents were Siciliano and it was their recipe. He never used fennel which I guess is common in sausage from Sicily. The first time I had Italian style sausage from the store as a teen I spit it out. Since then I won’t eat "Italian sausage" it if it has fennel. Appearently my great grandmother hated fennel as well and thus eliminated it from her recipe when she started making it here in America. More likely fennel seed was hard to come by here in America at the turn of the 19th century and she just didn’t use it.

Marinated boneless, skinless chicken breasts deep fried (covered) in the Griswold Chicken fryer ( makes an excellent dutch oven as well,, tater salad. snap peas simmered in butter & garlic.Coke.

Have to wait a bit for desert tho frown as it's in the oven baking. Blueberry cobbler topped with french vanilla ice cream when it hits the table.

Chicken was soooo juicy and tender topped with Rothchild's roasted pineapple and habanero glaze. Good stuff.

Buddy of mine had his annual Rib Fest tonight.

Ribs, pulled pork, brisket, hot links, Tater salad, cole slaw, beans, just about everything a guy could want. Oh, and free beer too
