I'm in the market for a factory 300WM for ranges out to 600 or 700 yards.
Not looking for a budget combination but at the same time can't afford to go the custom route.
Would appreciate recommendations for both rifle and scope.

Any reason you’re tied to 300WM? What are you wanting to do with it at 600 or 700 yards?

I too wanted a 500-800 yard rifle for shooting deer and antelope. I chose the Browning X-bolt, hell's canyon, in the Mcmillan stock....in 300 win. I put a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 with the MOAR reticle, on it. Replaced the trigger with a timney, and set it at 2.25 lbs.

It shoots factory nosler 200 grain accubonds into .5" at 100 yards. Best 800 yard 5 shot group has been 5". I did leave the muzzle break on it, so I could spot my shots, myself.

I couldn't be happier with it. Andy3

It will be used for hunting up to elk sized game, the 300WM potentially gives me a bit more hit at extended ranges than smaller calibers with still manageable recoil

I have used, prior to customising them, 2 Rem 700 Sendero II rifles for long range hunting of deer, one in 300WM and the other in 264WM.
Either out of the box with some tweaking, such as skim bedding the action, bedding the recoil lug correctly and trigger work, had them shooting tighter groups without much loading work as some of my other factory rifles did.
Both were sub 1/2 MOA rifles after little work done and would be a good place for you to start.
I know Remlin are having some issues of late, but these rifles, and the stocks they use, are very good starting points for LR hunting.
If you do what I did later on and customise them by swapping trigger groups, re-barreling, truing the action, changing bolts and using a stock for the intended purpose, I don’t think you can go wrong. My 2 rifles are used for F-Class to 1000mtrs now with 30” barrels.

Cheers.

Remington 700 long range, or older SS barreled action and buy your own stock. 3-9 SWFA or LRHS from GA Precision group buy. Done. Please close the thread. Grin

Sometimes you can find deals on older Sako rifles, which give you a lot of bang for your buck.

I've been shooting a Remington 700 5R (heavy 24" barrel) in .300 Winchester since last fall. It's straight out of the box and accurate with several handloads. However, with a Nightforce SHV 3-10x42, it probably weighs 10 1/2 lbs., probably comparable to a Sendero so equipped.

If you want this gun for hunting I also think the Browning Long Range Hell's Canyon is a hell of a rifle but maybe a little on the heavy side to be packing around, at least for me. I purchased the Browning x-bolt pro in 300 wm. Hell of gun for the money. I looked just about every non custom gun out there and actually owned a Sako and sold it due to ejection issues. But the Browning Pro is unbelievably great rifle. jmho.

I too bought one, but in 28 Nosler, really a nice rifle for the money. Very nice fit and finish, and as you saw they shoot awesome. I went the trigger spring route, mine break just a hair under 2 lbs.

I have the Remington 5R 300 Win mag too. I like the green stock. I shoot 165 Barnes in it. It’s at the bottom along with a 26 Nosler and a 7mm ultra mag.

I've found several accurate bullets for my 700 5R including the Barnes 150 &165 TTSXs, 180 AccuBond & BallisticTip, and the 200 Sierra GK, all with either H4350 or H4831. Haven't had much luck with the 180 Partition but have done only limited work with it so far.

2five7, I too went the replacement spring route, first. Found it to change pull weight, if it sat for a few hours...then it would go right back to the original setting. Don't know why, and didn't investigate it....just ordered the Timney instead.

Not to highjack the thread, but I've got a good friend that shoots the 28 Nosler, also....with the 195 grain Berger bullet. The ballistics of that combination is almost like a laser beam! VERY impressive cartridge!

Shoots fine but it will shoot better. Load data did not get me where I want with the 215 Berger Hybrids. Have some loaded up that will get shot this Friday. My buds load data came up 300 FPS short , either I read it wrong or he sent the wrong load. Shot 11/4 inch 1 3/8 inch groups at 2566 FPS , need 2850 FPS for this bullet to stabilize at sea level in a 1-10 twist barrel. Dyna bore coated the barrel and was curing it at the same time if that makes a difference.

One other thing its not a light weight , then again with its recoil level I wouldn't want a light weight shooting 215 hybrids.

Thanks. Keep us posted on progress. Understand it’s not a lightweight but still lighter than a sendero sfII. About perfect for what he’s looking for. As long as it shoots....

That is interesting about your trigger experience, just to double check I got my gauge out and checked both of mine again, right at 2 lbs on both. Springs have been in for maybe 6 months. I started load dev with 195's and 180 ELD, the 195 shot good right of the gate, the 180 shot amazing, so that's what I'm rolling with this year.
