I am interested in the scope if you purchase it.

I am interested in the scope if you purchase it. You got it. There's a 2.5-8 Zeiss Conquest on the shelf.

I don’t not think it’s a Mexican Model 1936. The cocking piece is wrong and there’s no gas port on the left side of the receiver ring.
If it’s a Mexican, perhaps it’s a 1910.

Rifles like that are a matter of taste. In my opinion, that one is pretty much perfect. The parts and workmanship appear to be first-rate, and whoever built it beautifully adapted the influence of classic English rifles to a much more modern stock design. That is no small feat. Military reworks can be a poorly-executed mishmash of styles and ideas that result in odd proportions and awkward lines, but that is absolutely not the case here. I'd even say that this one rises to the level of art. I'd expect a rifle like that to be priced $1,000 higher than this one is, and even more if it could be attributed to a well-known maker. So if it's what you like, then I'd be all over it.
My only concern is its age. Despite the modern stock design, the condition of the pad leads me to believe that it was probably built 25-30 years ago. At that time, plenty of folks still throated custom 7x57 barrels for the traditional 175-grain RN bullet. If that's the case, then it may not shoot spitzers as well as you'd like. Not sure how to check it, but a chamber cast would probably tell you, as well as revealing whether someone has turned it into a 7x57 AI without remarking the barrel. I'd be willing to endure slightly less accuracy in a rifle that beautiful.

If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

Okie, I plan on pulling the action to see if the maker signed underneath. If not then a re-barrel is a possibility (7x57 naturally!).
Hoping to get lucky though. Ottmar?

http://www.gunsinternational.com/gu...-sporter-7mm-mauser.cfm?gun_id=101028515Large ring or small ring? According to Cabelas the dimension is 1.5 in. I don't believe they actually measured it with a caliper. 2-position safety rifle weigh 7 lbs 14 oz scoped. Does the makers work look familiar to anybody? Unown gunsmith there's no markings on the rifle other than the caliber and Cabelas won't take it out of the stock to look underneath the barrel or action. I have it on 24-hour hold, I like the quality of the Walnut, it's in one of my favorite caliber and I love the weight of the rifle. OTOH, that's 2k I could put into a G33/40 action I have on the shelf. Had a look at it, and it is not something that would remotely interest me...but the G33/40 built, or preferably a model 21 would.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

It appears to have a Blackburn guard on it (over $400) which is a good thing. I know for a fact that ted made a number of them for small ring Mex Actions because I have owned a few of them.
However, it has a cheap (IMO) bolt job. I wquld much rather see a new bolt welded on instead of a forged one like it appears to be on this action.
I have 3 g.33/40 actions sitting on the shelf, and I agree, if I had the money I'd rather put it into the g.33/40 actions than into this rifle.

NYRIFLEMAN: Not to go down a different path, but I am curious that you were looking on Guns International. I love the site, because there seem to be more classics on there. I do see higher prices on that site, however. Your thoughts? Anyone else?

Well gents, I passed.
Cabelas remeasured the dimensions and believes it is a large ring. I dunno.
ELK, I have scored a few bargains on GI, but there are also some who believe their firearms are worth their weight in gold. Never hurts to make a serious offer.

Thinking irfubar & Rin hit it with the Mex--the shallow thumbslot on the 1910.
The Mex 1936 is a much more desirable action, imho, fwiw. The springfield cocker is an unusual feature on a mouser.
