I have a Heritage arms .22 that came with two cylinder's. A .22 lr and a .22 WSM Mag cylinder. Can I fire .22 lr rounds from the .22 Mag cylinder? Also how about Subsonic or .22 short's? Can they be fired from the .22 LR cylinder. I'm not up to speed on .22's so maybe someone can help. Thanks.

DO NOT USE .22LR AMMUNITION IN A .22 MAGNUM CYLINDER. Read your owner's manual. You can use Long Rifles, Longs, Shorts, CB caps and Subsonics in the Long Rifle cylinder.
To keep things working smoothly, DO brush out the chambers after using any ammo shorter than the normal .22LR ammo.
.22 Magnum is larger diameter than .22LR, and cases will split, causing mischief, leading, or tying up the revolver..It's not a good idea.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Just a guess but as it's marked 22 mag, that's all I would shoot in it. You said you also had the 22 cylinder, why not use it?

I agree. There's a reason the revolver has 2 cylinders. Stick with .22LR in the .22LR Cyl. and .22WMR in the .22WMR Cyl. If for no other reason than the shorter .22LR ammo will build up "crud" in the cylinder that will make it hard to extract the .22WMR empty cases, unless you do a thorough cleaning before switching cartridges. I found that out years ago when shooting .38Spcl in one of my .357Mag revolvers, then switching to full power .357Mag loads (without cleaning). The extractor DID NOT want to extract the empty .357Mag brass. YMMV -TomT

It'll do more than build up crud. Like ratsmacker said, the 22 s, l, and lr cases are a smaller diameter and could split.
But the WRF is safe in a WMR.

CAN a .22LR be fired in a .22WM chamber? Sure. SHOULD you? No.
CAN you drink yourself into a coma. Sure. SHOULD you?
The reason there are two cylinders is there is about a .016" difference in the diameter of the case and chamber. The WM also has a bore spec .002" larger than the LR spec.
Use .22 WM in the WM cylinder and the .22 LR, L, and S in the LR cylinder.

Wiki is not SAAMI and in this case their referenced bullet diameter is BS. Bullet spec for the WRF is .228, and groove is .226. 45 grains as opposed to 40 for the WMR requires a bit quicker twist if one wishes to shoot well. http://www.saami.org/specifications...s/download/Z299-1_ANSI-SAAMI_Rimfire.pdf

I think I read it on Chuck Hawks, who said it used a .224 bullet. Which is apparently incorrect. https://www.chuckhawks.com/22WRF.htmAs far as the weight, I'd agree that a 14 twist should be beneficial, as opposed to the more standard 16 twist, for shooting the heavier bullets like those in the Winchester Dynapoint 45 grain 22WMR and Federal Gameshock (I think) 50 grain 22WMR. But... in the end, if I happen to have some 22 WRF ammo that I just gotta shoot, or if I happen to be in some kind of survival scenario where I got a 22 WMR revolver or rifle and only 22 WRF and 22LR ammo, then I guess I'd use the 22 WRF ammo. Anyway, I was just showin jk a little love, as we had a minor difference of opinion a while back. Best I remember the old saying I guess, that two wrongs don't make a right. 😉

If you really want to shoot .22 LR ammo from the .22 MAG revolver cylinder, you can buy a set of chamber inserts/adapters from MCACE. I have a set that I use for shooting less expensive .22 LR practice ammo in my Rossi 515 and S&W 48 revolvers and in my Savage 24 combination gun. I tried to look at their web site, www.mcace.com, but it isn't working, so if you're interested in buying a set, you'll need to call them. I encountered a Ruger single action revolver with an unmarked cylinder. I loaded it with 22 LR ammo. On the first shot the case split and there was some gas blowback. When I asked the customer WTF he said , oh yeah the 22 Mag cylinderbis installed.. That's why I always wear safety glasses. Gun was ups ed to me and not brought in person. I'm not doing that again, I'll try 22 mag first next time. Mel
