Hello to all. I am new to this forum. My dad had Model 29 Savage pump. He has passed away and my mom has given it to me. The operating lock does not lock and it appears that the spring is gone or missing. I have searched and can not find a picture of the spring installed so I know where it goes. Also where can I find a spring for sale. The old rifle has an excellent bore and is in good shape except for this problem. I saw an old thread on this back in 2013 but I can not get the images to open. Any help would sure be appreciated. If i manually push the lock forward it works fine, but would like to have it be correct. Thanks in advance!!

Here is a picture, you might find that the springs in a BIC lighter might be close enough to size to work if cut down. Just in case you haven't ran across this info, it's recommended that you should only shoot standard velocity ammunition in these.

Nothing new to add to what Gene has said. Replacing missing springs and the like on old guns is a hit or miss proposition. Sometimes you can find it if you look, especially on line. In many cases though, what Gene has suggested is the only option. It it fits and it works, you're good to go. Ball point pens are a good source of springs too.

Gene, Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed as I had no idea where the spring was to go. I will try to find one or fabricate one as you suggested. Again Thanks so much my friend.

What keeps the spring from falling out???? It's in a small hole in the side of the receiver - the spring is a lot longer than what you see in the picture.
