FYI,
There's a 224 Krieger 6.5 twist for sale on NationalMatch. I think it's a 26". 223 Wylde Chamber, although a trip to Carlock for a reamer job could change that easily.

I think 1.65 twist is just too much.

I don't know how fast a twist a rifle barrel can have before it destroys any, and all types of bullets? But i would guess 1:6 or just a bit faster would be the magic number?

22 Nosler would be a better lighter bullet varmint cartridge, as it won't have a huge hogged out throat made for Sierra 90's. The problem is... Its just not that much better than what it is trying to replace.

Shooting 55 grain varmint rounds out of a .224V with a 1.65 twist would be hard on jackets. A fella would want to slow them down.

Then what would the point of the .224 V?

My thoughts exactly! Thats why i will stay with .223

My thought is if 1:7 isn't fast enough, why mess around with 1:6.5, why not go straight to 1:6? It's not that big of a jump; I have to think that most bullets that shoot well in a 1:7 should do just fine in a 1:6 too.

So, pretty much nothing above is correct.

I agree, the 22 Nosler is a joke just like their brass, have you seen what they are asking for their brass, not just 22 Nosler but other calibers. I have an Ar chambered in 223/5.56, with it's 24 inch barrel I can get 3350 plus with 55 gr bullets, 3000 fps with 69/70 grain bullets and 2900 with 77 gr bullets, accuracy is excellent, have a couple of loads using the 52 gr Sierra and 52 gr Hornady ELD that shoot quarter inch groups. Try going out in the desert or local shooting range to collect 22 Nosler or Valkyrie brass.

I have a 6. Have never put it on anything.

6.5s... have covered everything I"ve wanted so far. normal barrel life. Allow one to shoot from 90 to 52, but does need not thin jackets, same was the case for a 7.7 Krieger when it hit light Berger jackets once...

of course if you are convinced light bullets are the ticket, then we don't need to talk 6.5 twists. And I'll hand you your azz on the long lines.... LOL

We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

I think what you are implying has some merit, Jeff.

Trying to have a singe gun be able to handle such a broad range of bullets (percentage wise) is less than optimum.

Contrary to some of the 'spurts on here, faster twist is always better............I'm not necessarily buying into that.

Some of my most accurate barrels were on rifles with just enough twist to stabilize the chosen bullet(s).

Expecting best results on 224 bullets from 52 to long 90-100 grain bullets is likely not optimum for the lighter bullets. If I were to build a Valkyrie, I'd probably do 2 rifles; one with a 6 twist & one with an 8 or a 7.5 twist.

It is hard for me to believe that federal could ever make brass where the primer pockets would hold up in the Val. Starline is the next option. Those 90g bullets are going to generate some serious pressure.

Is anyone reloading for the Valkyrie?

I am looking at having a bolt head changed over. Soft head cases would sure be a pisser after the investment it takes!
