Been wanting a standard walnut/blued one for awhile. There is a gun shop literally 1/2 mile from my house and they have always been overpriced on everything and I've never purchased anything from them. Well dang it if they didn't have a 77/22 lnib with rings...no scope. I believe it was built in 2005ish. They had 600 on it and for giggles I asked them what was the best they could do. Got it 500 plus tax. I felt is was plenty fair being a like new rifle. Sitting next to my cz 452, 455, and winchester 320 at the moment.

How is your accuracy on that? Have you had to do any work on it?

Killerv: That is indeed an excellent purchase you made there at that gunshop.
I have been chasing guns for more than half a century now (55 years in fact!) and it always amazes me that now and again the gunstores and gunshops that are notoriously over-priced on guns will burp up a good deal on occasion!
In fact just last week I was debating whether or not to even stop at the Missoula, Montana Cabelas "Outpost" where "deals" are very rare - I am glad I did stop.
I eventually got out the door of that pricey place with a MINT condition Smith & Wesson Model 19-5 with a 6" barrel and factory nickel finish for $550.00 (no tax!)!
They were asking $649.00 for it originally and I told the sales clerk to figure out their BEST cash price and he did - but then he advised me if I signed up for a Cabela's Card I would get another $20.00 off my purchase and once I did that it turned out I qualified for their highest echelon card and that qualified me for another 5% off my purchase price!
Anyway if worse came to worse I would have paid the $649.00 for that minty nickel plated long barreled revolver but getting out of there for $550.00 really made my day.
Moral of this story (and yours) I guess is take the time to travel and seek out "deals/opportunities" even to places you have not had much luck in previously.
Enjoy your 77/22 - that indeed was a good deal.

I've had my 77/22 RS since '87 or '88. Picked it up used for somewhere in the $200-250 range (don't really remember). Had to have firing pin replaced, about 20% light strike misfires, so that explained why it was for sale! Also let the smith do a "trigger job" while he had it. It's been a great rifle. And it likes Winchester Super X ammo.

As an RS model it came with ruger rings and iron sights. Don't know how common they were, haven’t seen many.
I put a Bushnell 4x rim fire scope on it in '88 and haven't found a need to change a thing since.

I’d wanted one of thes for years and had a line on an all weather version when they stopped making them about 1.5 years ago and the prices shot way up. After a lot of searching, I got a synthetic stocked blued model for 500 dollars BNIB so I got it. I mounted a leupold vx1 rimfire 2-7x28 on it with the factory rings (I do have the Talley rings for it but havnt bothered to use them, same with the timney seat piece, I have it but havnt put it in). I absolutely love this rifle for small game hunting and general practicing, I love hat it has the 3 position safety like my other hunting rifles.

A great rifle in my book, as I put about 5 to 10K rounds per year down the tube after ground squirrels. I was near going for a new barrel after some initial disappointments and then read up on shimming the bolt. A 0.007" shim brought things around, and some simple work on the sear and the trigger spring turned mine into a for sure keeper. Does extremely well with target grade stuff and is adequate with either American Eagle hollow points or Winchester Power Points for utility work on ground squirrels. When headed out, its a toss up between taking the Ruger or an Anschutz.

Agree on the scope. I have a variable Tasco and point of impact will shift with power changes.

After a through cleaning, it seems to take about 20 rounds or so down the tube before things settle down. Early on I did some cleanings and then started chasing zero at the range. After several rounds and adjustments, the settings would end up right where I started. A slow learner I guess.

If I was to find a steal, I'd pick up a spare with little thought at all.

Since swapping to a GM fluted stainless 17machII barrel, I doubt I'll ever put the 22 LR one back on.....

I went 17 wsm on mine...Jared trigger replacing factory @ 2lbs. Shoots extremely well with Federal AE 20grainers. I like how it feels you’re holding and shooting a real hunting rifle...😎

Hunts, It only comes in a 24” barrel...Pat- Scenarshooter, has one like mine. Pat, sent me a PM of a quick 5 string group he had just went outside and shot in 5 minutes...It’s was so ridiculously accurate that Pat didn’t want to post it on the thread.

They shoot really well. Mine, like several other people I know who own them found. Federal America Eagle seems to be it’s preferred diet...Mark 😎

I know how each and every one of you feel. Over the years I've accumulated several of these fine rifles. I go to gun shows just to look for a deal on another one.
I've added Rifle basics trigger and had the barrel fluted on a 17mach 2 all weather that will put five in the same hole at fifty yards indoors.
Found a 17hmr at a show in Virginia that had a green mountain barrel. Picked it up cheap cause of the after market barrel. Someone had worked the trigger. Shoots lights out.
In a cabelas with my wife and on the used rack is a boat paddle with green trim and scope. Brand damn new. 400. Picked it up and never set it down.
I've swapped out many of the sears that needed help with the volquartsen kits.
In my opinion a finer gun has never been made
I would post photos but don't know how.

Feral cats around here get the same medicine. They are horrible on wild bird populations and breed as fast as they can.
