Hello,
Have any of you tried the R 16 in the 9,3x62? Extrapolating loads from other cartridges, the R16 should be a very good all around powder for the 9,3. Experiences? Mule Deer, the 9,3x62 Guru..?
Thank you!

Disclaimer: not a guru of any description.
Reloder 16 is the least dense of the 4350-ish powders and you will not be able to stuff enough into a case to get top velocity. At least that is my experience with the very similar 9.3x66 where velocity with a case full of R16 was 100 fps less than what was achievable with R17, 2000MR or Big Game.
Cheers, Walt

Hello Walt,
Thank you! I am using R15 for the bullets I have, all 250 grs or less. I am very happy with it.
Best!

I only used R15 and H414 in the 9.3x62, but I only used the 285 Mega and the 286 Nosler. Great cartridge!

Have yet to try R15.
Getting best accuracy with 2000MR (WLR primers) and Big Game (215 primers) with 250 Accubond, TXS and TTSX. Big Game and 2000MR are also tops with 285 Mega an 286 Noslers using WLR primers.
Prefer Gig Game because less sensitivity to temperature changes.
Mine is a 9.3x66 so your results will probably vary. Best accuracy seems to come at just under 2700fps with 250s and just under 2500 with 286s. Don't need more recoil than that anyway.
Cheers, Walt

Thank you Walt. With my 9,3x62, one of the earlier BRNO ZKK 600 made in 1967, with 60 cm barrel lenght I use the loads with R15 developed and published by Mule Deer, with exactly the same results in my rifle. With Barnes TTSX and Hornady GMX 250 grs. Also use the R 15 with the 220 grs FOX monometal bullet, made in Slovenia. Great one! Seems to be of gildin metal, more like Hornady GMX than the Barnes X. I reach 2800 f/s with a normal pressure load. Last Saturday I got a Red Deer, taken in a selective and control hunt. A big bodied with small antlers. My first big game animal with the 9,3 and that FOX bullets. A 200 meters shot, angled from the rear the bullet entering at the stomach and exiting in front of the shoulder blade. The deer did a small run downhill and at 10 meters collapsed. Bullet not found. The efect was fenomenal. One sample is obviously not representative of anything but like it, anyway.
Best!

PatagoniaHunter,
great job on the hunt and finding a load that works.
Thanks to your post I'll be looking to see if there is a source here in the States for those bullets.

PH, thanks for the pictures of your hunt. What's not to like about lunch in the woods!
If the son is holding the 7x57 in the picture of him with the deer, it has what appears to be beautiful wood.
I looked up the bullets on Fox's website. I will do further checking on them as I will be required to use non-lead bullets for all my hunting in the near future in my home state.
Muchisimas Gracias otra vez.

Hello Valsdad,
You wellcome! That 7 mm Mauser has a very nice walnut stock. It is an Argentine Mauser 1935 action, with a SIG barrel, a pristine and non used one from a Chilean contract for replacenment of their military 7x57 Mauser: 1912 Steyr and 1935 Mauser-Werke.
Good luck!
