When I buy any firearm, fear and trepidation hound me till I know, does she SHOOT? First trip to the gun club today with 20 MPH winds & 30 degree temperatures. My 6 year old daughter & 8 year old son accompanied me. Loaded up 34 gr.of 4895 behind Hornady and Winnie 87 gr. bullets. Taking a 6 o'clock hold at 50 yd I put out two, 3 shot groups. I'm very pleased!!! [/URL] The three on the right Winnies measures 1", adjusted the windage, the three on left Hornady, measures 7/8" . The 100 yard range was covered in almost 3 feet of ice and snow, so I just took an off hand poke at the 8" gong. My son shouted above the wind, "Hit!" My 250-3000 1920 is a KEEPER!!! Now if somebody can point me to period Savage swivels... Thanks!

Thanks Loggah / Pizzaman! Now I'll start playing with load and bullet combinations. Then I'll put the gun in the hands of my uncle who is a real shooter and we'll see what the gun can actually do. These old guns are almost always more accurate than I am. Just love shooting them vintage guns and trying to squeeze all I can out of them. And again, how can ya not love a controled feed, claw extraction bolt action with a shotgun tang safety? Love the pencil thin 22" barrel. My 1924 cataloug reads: " The Savage Model 20 bolt action rifle represents the latest and highest development of the American hunting rifle." Great advertising!

Bert, should have kept the ones off the R!!!! Seriously though, I don't think the model 1920 was factory studded for sling eyes till 1926 so your gun won't really be original due to the early D.O.M. Like you said, it's a great shooter so I wouldn't worry about sling eyes, besides that they're rarer than hens teeth to find.

MD, what's the point of owning a gun if it don't shoot well? What was the Jim Carmichael quote: " There's nothing interesting about an inaccurate gun ! " ? Even my 1895 which has an almost perfectly concentric chamber can do 1 3/8" groups with the right ammo and peeps. A gun has gotta shoot! Originality? period swing swivel are just trickets I want to dress it up with. If I don't get the accuracy from a gun I expect, it's down the road... if my scoped "R" don't outshoot my "F" it's gone! I ain't carrying the extra weight because it's pretty... Ask me sometime about my dream gun, an ornately engraved English 16 bore sidelock which didn't shoot for me. It went down the road!!! Broke my heart but it's gone. What's the point? Trigger? yah, a bit of slack and creep but breaks at about 3-4 lb.

Did I mention I dumped off two 250-3000s TDs last year, a nice collectable '24 "F" and a '28 "G" because they didn't perform at the range to my satisfaction?
They gotta shoot!!!

I didn't mean the guns were rarer than hens teeth, I was talking about the sling eyes.

"Bert, Is that why you dont have winchesters?marlins? Don " Actualy Don, I got a 38-55 Win in the safe right now but it goes to market tomorrow, sold before I bought it. Ain't owned another Winnie in my life. Well, there was that Safari grade III in a 270 WSM but that really don't count cause... MD, I thought you had a source for repo sling eyes & studs, no?

Loggah, these deluxe little bolt action with checkering & peeps in Sav 250s & 300s might be one of the most under rated rifles out there. I got the one I've been looking for, don't think I'll find another in this condition again. Luckily some of our dealers up here aren't reflecting Internet prices
