Thanks to being active on this board, I didn't miss "Monte Walsh" again.

Great movie.

They did a fair job with the weapons except for one (that I saw) time when Monte had his SAA cocked and decided not to shoot. He just put the hammer down instead of rotating the cylinder to put the empty chamber under the hammer.

I did notice that he put an extra round into his Winchester after chambering a round. That's pretty realistic.

If you didn't see it and are a cowboy, make plans for tonight for sure.

If anyone wants to read a four part interview with Tom Selleck about the making of Monte Walsh follow this link: Interview with Tom Selleck
There is some interesting information on the guns used in the movie.

Need to start a movement for Tom Selleck to take over where Heston leaves off for the nRA

Deputy Norm--I had read the book back in the '70s and thought it to be one of the best I had ever read, at least of the Western genre. When the movie came out, and especially with Tom Selleck as Monte Walsh, it was a "have to see". Probably again tonight!!

I'd go along with Tom Selleck for President of the NRA. Maybe he would hire Rosie to clean the bathrooms.

Too late, Rosie got a job with a landscaping company in Florida.

She was fitted with spiked heels and aerates lawns now.

Be a more efficient use of the resource if they covered her in porcupine pelts and rolled them lawns, wouldn't it?

Saddle...........

I'd 2nd that....

Selleck would be a good one to follow behind Charlton Heston.....

You know Heston ain't getting no younger......Maybe Selleck will be the one....High profile, and a firm believer in the NRA....

I like him as a choice...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I found it interesting, that Selleck provides all the rifles and saddles.I thought that looked like a 50-110 round he put in the magazine after he chambered the round. And he's right,an 1886 carbine so chambered is damn near non-existant.

About 12 or 15 years ago I had the chance to buy a model 1886 SRC in 50-110. It was almost mint . It came out of an estate in nw Connecicut. The price at the time was $5,000.00. I say I had the chance but it was not much of a chance for me at $5,000.00 when I only had about $50.00. At least I was able to hold it. That didn't cost me anything. The gun was finally sold to a well known dealer in Texas. I later saw a 1886 SRC in 50-110 offered by this dealer at a little under $10,000.00. Nice profit if it was the same gun.

Norm, I noticed him putting the extra round in too. Pretty neat I was thinking, he's been there done that I would say. The other movie not sure of the name but they were gambling on the river boat Mel Gibson won the big card game. What I wanted to say is that Jodie Foster is so tough she drives me nuts. Pretty girl!!

Sjc1,
It's hard to belive that at one time, those rifles wouldn't even bring $100.Heck,back in the late 1960s,you could pick up big name 577 NE double rifles for $300,which now sell for $30,000 on up!!

WheelchairBandit,
You are very much correct on this. Also, I remember back in the mid to late 1960's you could buy used Colt SAA's for around $50.00. Nobody wanted them. Back then a lot of the gun dealers could not even give the Colt Bisley away. The new Ruger single action was all the rage. Today, those same SAA's start at $1,000.00 plus and go up from there.

7400Hunter,

The movie was "Maverick" based on the old TV series. Interesting that James Garner the original "Maverick" and played in the movie.

Jodie is unique. Did you see her in "Contact?"

Norm, Not sure of the Title, my mind is about a long as my ...... which is embarrasingly short. About all I can do is watch it for a while and see, sometimes they come back to me and sometimes not. I remember her in this movie because I just watched it last night and some of it again today. I will check that title out and see. Was it a western? It was odd that Gibson played maverick and Garner the sheriff, I would say Gibson had the say on who played what when they cast for the movie because he was hot then and now. Garner has started to drift away in popularity.

7400,

Well James Garner is a bit past leading man roles. Maybe his role as the sheriff was like Hollywood Social Security for aging thespians.
