Was that the time you told me you made a mistake once?

Fug, how did you come to the conclusion that there were only 50 made? I think J.A. still has his yet?

Been told it's talked about in Murray's book, been too long since I read it cover to cover.

Betting there's a couple folks on here who have one.

Bottom one here:

Little bird just told me that Murray's says Roe Clark found the ledger stated they were sent to A.F. Stoeger, NY firearms outfitter. No note in Murray's about them being an RS or being sold to the NY State Police. It did note that the 3 that Doug Murray saw all had the 102L receiver sight on them, and a stamped 1/4" high number by the pistol grip cap.

From my notes: A special order of 99R's in 30-30 Winchester were made for A. F. Stoeger and Co. in the mid 1930's. They were fitted with Redfield No. 102L side mounted receiver sight and stamped below pistol grip with a 1/4 inch number in the teens. Tom

Wow, that side mount 102 would certainly be misleading should you ever come across one!

Yeah, been more than a few 99's that I see a 102L on and just walk past. Have to remember to take closer look at 99R's. grin

I think I'm going to stop passing on 102L equipped 99s. Not because of the possibility of a rifle being a product made for Stoeger, but because frankly its a solid and indestructible hunting sight. I could see the function of one on a 99 if you were looking to have a "survival" or "take anywhere and do anything" 99.

I bought the three above the 30-30 from JA. The 30-30 was way out of my price range. John A has a letter from Callahan and one from Doug Murray stating that rifle was his as described in his book.

Good for you! Nice group of R's.

You are correct that the bottom R in .30-30 is the one listed in Murray's book...$$$$

Nice... Curious about the stamped numbers by the pistol grip cap. Be nice to run into more of these to find out more about it.

Thank you. If there was anyone on here that would have one, my initial guess would be you.
