Hello all, I am stumped. I recently became the care taker of an aforementioned Browning/Sako Safari L571. It is a rudimentary question I am sure, but here it is. Does the front sling swivel have to be removed to take the stock off? I am a Pre 64 Model 70 guy, but I could not put down this pencil barreled Browning down. I removed the screws in the action but it feels like the front of the barrel is locked into the stock. I have tried a rubber dead blow and it still feels as if the front sling screw is holding it in? Beautiful rifle that I don't want to Bubba, so I maybe overly cautious? Thanks for any info.

Pictures would help. Is there a band halfway down the barrel?

If you slide a piece of typing paper underneath the barrel and move it toward the front sling does it stop? I don't think there is any harm in removing the front sling either.

Front swivel should not have to be removed, I assume you're asking about a flush mounted swivel, no tthe screw in type? No movement with a deadblow? That's strange for sure..

Work the paper as far back as possible. Maybe, some one tried to glass in a bedding pad, and bonded the barrel to the stock? Proceed carefully if that is possible. Try freezing it in the freezer. Heat would work, but is risky.
