I just finished reading a column in the July 2018 issue of Shooting Times that Terry Wieland wrote. (It starts on page 68.) In it he discussed the differences of opinion on "restoring" classic firearms. The example he used is one of his Savage 99s. The pictures of that rifle show a tang-mounted aperture sight that looks like something I would be really interested in for my 99. Can anybody take a look at those pictures and point me in the right direction as to where I might find a sight like that? Thanks, in advance, for any advice or guidance.

Looks like a Lyman 57SA. Other similar sights are Lyman 56S, and Redfeild 70. They can be found fore sale on Ebay on a regular basis.

Of the three the Lyman 56S will be the most scarce. And the one I have won't fit without relieving some of the stock. I haven't seen this problem with the 57SA and Redfield 70. Of the three the Redfield is my favorite.

I have a Lyman 57SB in excellent condition I would be willing to part with. I believe the top of the stock along the receiver must be relieved as S99VG said about the 56S. PM me if you are interested and I can dig it out and get pictures.

I know where there is a 56S, but the guy wants about $250...
