No expert, but common sense tells me an (unlikely) dog-wolf hybrid, what with the mismatched features.

Half coyote , half dog? I imagine when you mix genetics you can get some deformed bodies. I know when you regrow hybrid plants you get stuff that has not been seen before. A neighbors hybrid squash came up the next year from seed, it looked edible , but was some weird looking stuff. This is the best explanation I have. Half donkey , half horse is a mule. If ya never saw a mule, you'd wonder what it was, I guess.

Not a dire wolf. They were a lot bigger. Yeah, I think about 5 feet at the shoulder. How would you like to meet a pack of them?  . Went extinct quite a while back, lucky for us. Well, no - I just googgled it. 2 species, the larger went about 150. Not much bigger than current Yukon wolves. Went extinct 10,000 years ago.
