Add to that incompetence caused by afirmative action style promotion and you have a prescription for disaster.

The Pentagan wants to spend money on new weapons technology which greases the palms of Generals and Defense contractors.

Meanwhile we are littleraly running out of basics like bombs.

Overall combat readiness suffered greatly under Obamy.

The collision between John S. McCain and Alnic MC was also avoidable and resulted primarily from complacency, over-confidence and lack of procedural compliance. A major contributing factor to the collision was sub-standard level of knowledge regarding the operation of the ship control console. In particular, McCain's commanding officer disregarded recommendations from his executive officer, navigator and senior watch officer to set sea and anchor watch teams in a timely fashion to ensure the safe and effective operation of the ship. With regard to procedures, no one on the Bridge watch team, to include the commanding officer and executive officer, were properly trained on how to correctly operate the ship control console during a steering casualty.

Don't know for sure. But if the Navy is anything like today's corporations, the line managers (Officers) are expected to do twice as much with half as many people who are under trained, over worked, and tired. The plant (ship) is understaffed and over tasked. You do what you can but in the end, the blame falls squarely on some penny pinching VP with an acocunting degree and no plant experience.

Maybe he really did screw up. But he likely just did the best he could with what he had, and somebody had to pay for it. That's why he only got fined $6,000 and was allowed to retire.

I guess the Playstation experience was not enough this time.

Nobody is factoring in 8 years of Obama firing top military leaders, and watering down the entire military...?

Bet that 18 tear old undertrained helmsman was fully trained and up to date on all the sensitivity, diversity, and various other feel good training requirements that have appeared during the recent administrations efforts to undermine and discredit all branches of the armed forces.

The Captain took the fall for what is really a Navy wide problem of chitty recruits who are under trained. Way too much time and effort put into PC training and way to little time and effort put into skill training. The Captain is ultimately responsible and made some poor decisions but is most likely a diversity promotion and was never competent to begin with. Burning him to the ground when he was set up to fail would just be cruel. It will take years to correct the damage to our military but it will get done as the elite come to the realization that the Chinese are for real.

I hope you are right.

I suspect the money the Navy does get goes into high tech weapons, which may or may not work, and not in to training and leading the Fleet.

Am not at all experienced in Navy matters and have only a smattering of sailing experience, but know for certain that personal incompetence and neglect of responsibility will crash even the best designed enterprise. They can use all sorts of esoteric terms in trying to obfuscate the situation - but the causes are very basic. Now - how things got that way - that's a different issue.
