For sale: Magellan Platinum. This is an older (~10 years) unit that works great. A rub spot or two, but that's it. It has been used very little.

The good:
Very accurate speed display when compared against the speedometer in my pickup-so it keeps track of the satellites well.
Very accurate when comparing the locations it gives vs. the locations shown when the coordinates are punched into Google Earth
Very accurate with the distances between waypoints, when the way point locations are punched into Google Earth
Doesn't eat batteries quite as bad as the newer units
Has SD card slot for extra storage
Built in worldwide basemap of major waterways, cities, highways, airports, etc.
Free mapping programs can be had on the 'net, if you're more eSavy than I am
Here's a link to some identical units on Amazon with more detailed info:Magellan Platinum

The bad:
This unit does not have a color screen
Does not read onXmap mapping chips-I don't know why: I suspect the mapping software in this GPS isn't the same as used by onXmaps

No box or papers or anything, just a money back guarantee if this item isn't described properly. I rarely use a GPS, but want a color screen and the onXmaps for hunting checkerboard lands.

$50 shipped to lower 48. If you're somewhere else we'll talk about the shipping and work a deal.
First unconditional "I'll take it" gets it.

I had the meridian gold, and loved it. Very accurate units. But now obsolete. The mapping software has changed and can not be updated. (That's why mine is now gone.)

Ya, understood, and I am in the same boat which is why I am seeing if anyone wants it.

This would be a great GPS for someone who just needs a basic unit to tell them their location and such, but that's about it.

No, they are good for a lot more than that. Hundreds of waypoints, those convert from land based to water based with the flip of a switch. It will show every shipwreck and channel depth, as well as even being water proof and floats. They can take a 10'drop on concrete, if I recall correctly, and keep working. It will hold 4 state sizes maps on one SD card, and you can have the entire US about 13 cards., and do GPS offsets for point to point navigation. It will take metro (street by street) or TOPO (which I used) and every known spring, I think. And it would link to a laptop for downloads and path marking. It was a very nice unit, and yours is better than mine was. wink
They also work when phone GPS will not. That greyscale screen saves battery life as well.

It has a limited lifespan, but as long as it still works, it's a very good investment.

Huh...I didn't know it could do half of that, besides the battery life part.

I doubt I could figure out how to do any of it, but it is still good to know.

Thanks!

Yeah, they were nice. I would walk the property lines of any property I had permission to hunt with the GPS. then link to the laptop, and convert the GPS trace to drawn lines, then download it back to the GPS. This way you always knew how far and in what direction the fenceline was, and where you were on the property.
With the offset function, I could find any GPS location from any other GPS location, or from my location to any other GPS location, strictly by the GPS numbers. Heck, I could teach you offsets over the phone, simple really. wink

Bet not. wink I'm no more at home on a computer than you are. An offset is simple. If the instructions say go from point A to B, and then to C, an offset says track both points from A, and let me go direct from A to C. The software is on the GPS. You just fill in the numbers. BUMP. wink

Sure.

Suck my wang on a monthly basis and I may just give you this fine piece of equipment after 4 months.

That's a deal since your prices are normally less than $10 a month. Unlimited.
