For me it would come down to whichever rifle/action you felt more comfortable with. i like the pump over a lever, not because it gives me a faster follow up but because it feels more comfortable for that first, most important shot.
You know about the Benoits?

Between your two, I'd pick the pump.
Were it me, a 760 Carbine made before 1981.

Of the two I'd take the 7600 and that says alot because I hate anything Remington. I find the BLR poorly balanced for offhand shooting which is how 90% of my shots are taken when still hunting. I did use a Remington 760 for a couple years and found it pretty decent but I prefer a Marlin 336 to either.

The 7600 will come with a higher comb and fit the shooter better to a low mounted scope. The Leupold 1.5-5 is perfect on this rifle. Here's my 760 Carbine in 308 with updated 7600 stock. I live in NB, Canada right next door to Maine. It's the perfect rig for this part of the world.

Nice rig. What's your 1) longest and 2) average shot for deer with that rifle?

Remington pump gun all day, every day, no question.
R. G. Bernier would probably recommend putting a Leupold 2-7x33 with a heavy duplex reticle on top of your 7600 carbine.
For some reason, I current find myself with 6 Remington pump guns in 30-06, 5 760s and a 7600.

Grice’s has 7600 carbines in 35 Whelen with synthetic stocks.
I bought one for my son.
Would be handy in the Maine woods and have plenty of power for anything you might run into up there.

I’m not from ME, but close..........
My preference is the 7600 carbine. It remains my go-to around here.

Nice rig. What's your 1) longest and 2) average shot for deer with that rifle? Don't seem to shoot much over 100yds most half that or less when still hunting. I have used a 2-7 on that rifle too. It worked very well. I have found that a 22" rifle cut back to 20" seems to handle better than the 18.5" Carbine. Had 4 done like that over the yrs. Currently have a 20" 30-06 with Williams FP receiver sight. It shoots 180gr RN into an inch (scoped). Perfect handling, easy carry.

I favor the Savage 99 over the pump, The fore end on the pump rattles and they are not handsome.
The 760 pump resembles an economy shotgun.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Which ever one doesn't rattle, has the quietest safety, and fits you best.

There was no way to get on the sights or a low mounted scope. I took a rasp to it, and have no problem getting on them now.

It doesn't rattle near as much as your fugging melon.

My best friend and Hunting buddy hunts with a 7600 30-06. It doesn't rattle and he shoots it well. When he pushes the safety off it's time to grab a knife. I've been with him when he shot deer at 350 with it.

The forend rattle is a lot easier to fix than the typical tang crack on a 99 and the only lever gun that's easy to look at would be a Model 64 or 86. The rest are just plaine butt ugly.
