Hello,
I've done some google searches out of curiosity on different bullets used in 223 for deer. Lots of results were threads from this forum so I thought I join and ask a question. I've never found a direct comparison between the nosler 64 grain bonded solid base and the federal fusion 62 grain bullet, and I'm curious what those who have used both have to say. Just curious how they compare against one another, mainly on deer, so I thought I'd put it in this forum but if you want to toss in your comparisons from those piggies it's all good to. I reload and thanks to you guys I know were to get the fusion bullets and I'm already a good customer on where to get nosler's seconds
Any issues with feeding in an ar? Thinking it's a non issue but I'd be launching them out of one. Any difference in accuracy between the two bullets? Terminal performance? Is one better than the other? What kind of velocity are you getting in what length barrel? Effective range of the bullet out of a 223? And any thing else you care to share
Thanks!

I haven't worked any loads up with the fusion. The BSB, on the other hand, feeds well in my Daniel Defense but is my 'primary' 223 deer, hog, varmint bullet in my Tikka. Haven't run velocity tests in a while on this one, IIRC, I was in the 28-2900 fps range in my Tikka. I took a coyote at 250 with it and a couple of whitetail does around 100 or less. My grandson used it in his AR to take a nice 6 pt buck at just over 100.

They both, reportedly, have good terminal performance.
IME, the 62 gr. Fusion is much more accurate than the 64 gr. BSB. To me the choice is easy.
I never got the BSB to group very well, the Fusion was sub inch out of my AR, first load I tried.

The 62 gr. Fusion is the one I shoot in my DPMS and Savage Model 10 Predator/Hunter. Death to deer and hogs, groups well in both rifles.

I did a penetration/expansion test last fall that included the 62 grain fusion and the 64 grain gold dot. they looked and penetrated almost exactly the same. check it out over on youtube. I think I labeled it something like:223 rem controlled expansion bullet test. my youtube name is Big Ed. its been a while but I think I tested about 5 diff kinds of 223 rem "whitetail worthy" bullets. good luck, Big Ed

Fusion and the price make the choice a no-brainer. DF

The 140 gr Fusions work nastily well in a 7-08, too. Good accuracy.

I couldn't get the 64 BSBs to shoot to my satisfaction . Ive been shooting some 55 grain Speer gold dots ( bonded bullets) and they are shooting well..I just need to throw a couple into some "test media"...

And with RMR prices, IMO, it’s hard to beat these bullets.

I did pick up a few bags of the nosler 64 grain BSB blems a while back when they were on sale for $16 when SPS had some other items I wanted. Haven't had a chance to even load any yet. Guess I'll have to get some fusions from RMR as well and see which ones shoot better. Keep the info coming.

I haven't tried the BSB's in a .223 yet but have loaded them for my .22-250. Seated over a book max. charge of CFE .223 they do right at 1" out of my 12 twist T/C venture. Plenty good enough for deer.

Plenty good enough for deer. That’s better performance than I got. I pretty well wrote them off, am bullish on the Federal Fusion. Will make someone a good deal on my remaining BSB’s. I got a thousand Fusion 62’s. Those will last me a while; they have a good shelf life...😀 DF

You can get 500-62 grain bear claws on GunBroker for 57.00. That’s a deal! I believe they are air pulled. These will rip the crap out of pigs. I used to go over to Jack Carters shop years ago. He knew I was a plumber, always ask me if I had any cshit on my boots.
