This coon is perched outside a 23d floor office in St Paul, MN. The fire dept is trying to lure him down. I wonder how much they'll spend doing that when any hunter could get him down pronto. I'm sure the window would cost less than paying a dozen firemen with all their equipment. If you could catch him between windows, the damage wouldn't even show.

He'll come down on his own when he gets hungry/thirsty enough - or when he looses his grip.

My first apartment I had in Minnesota was in a brick faced building, and we had a cat that used to climb all over the side of the building and just show up on your balcony. They said he'd been doing it for years. He didn't really belong to anyone, but lots of folks took care of him. He'd plop down on your balcony, hang around for a few hours and then on to the next vertical challenge. Never wanted to come inside, but obviously knew the places with the best handouts.

Coons can fall...

I chased one up a huge oak tree one night, and was shining a light along the branches trying to spot it.. It was hard to see, and I just kept looking, and I heard a big "Thump!" and saw the coon lying there on the ground. Graveyard dead.

I bet he thought "Oh chit!" on the way down down... grin

Yep, had one fall at the Alamo, out a pecan tree planted in 1857, landed on the ground amid a crowd of tourists. Squirrels must have shock absorbers, it ran off. Sure would have been an event had it landed on someone.

The big fuzzy tail acts somewhat like a parachute. It slows down the fall. I also read that when landing, a squirrel can tuck it's tail under it as a cushion. I've never seen it myself, though.

Probably not, they won't climb down head first and they won't back down. Time for rescue or watch him dehydrate.
