I feel like I should know why the answer to this is “obviously yes” or “obviously no”, but I don’t and I couldn’t find anything to confirm online so I’ll ask this here. Any reason I can’t trim 338/06 cases using the case length gauge and shell holder for a 30/06? Same shell holder and OAL at 1/3 the price. Thanks. Todd

Precisely what type of gauge and shell holder are we talking about?

https://leeprecision.com/gage-holder-30-06-sprfld.htmlI have the cutter and lock stud for this design. Lee has them available for the 338/06, but it’s $16 vs $6 for the 30/06 through Midway with free shipping. Thanks!

This is the system I use for nearly all of my trimming. What you want to do is not impossible, but it doesn't work well. I've used the .30-30 length gage to trim .32 Winchester Special cases before the .32 gage was available. The gage wobbles around too much in the case neck to work well.

The 338 case mouths will wobble around the 30 cal shaft and not cut square, spend the extra couple bucks.

If you can't find the 338-06 buy one for the 338WM and trim the tip till it gauges correctly. powdr

I usually trim my 06 brass first then run it through my 338-06 Fl sizer die
