This book is about Winston Churchill and his early life (as a young man) and mostly about the second Boer war. He went to that war as a newspaper correspondent and was captured by the Boers and was held with pow's in Pretoria. He and several others planned an escape but only Churchill was able to escape. He was able, with help, to make it back to British territory. This book has a lot of detail about the battle and capture. He was certainly an enthusiastic young man.

Incidentally, when he had escaped a reward of 25 Pounds sterling was posted on a wanted poster (for his capture dead or alive)-- a pretty good sum back then. After he had made it back to safety he sent a letter to the poster's author saying, "I think you might have gone as high as 50 Pounds without an overestimate of the prize".

Another book worth a read if you have an interest in Churchill.
