My wife, and I are nearly loaded up for a trip to NW Ontario tomorrow morning. I am hoping on catching some nice fish, of course. It's always nice to meet up with old friends, and make some new friends if that works out.

I hopin' to get together with Paul, of course.

Make a slight detour in Fort Frances to the McDonald's and try the poutine. It's pretty good. Eating poutine makes you an official Canadian, eh?

We always called them pickerel. Grouse got called partridge. I grew up in S. Ont, but the north was always my favourite part of the province. We have a camp between Hearst and Long Lac.

Hi Richard, It'll depend how log you're up for ?

Deb, the Kids & I are off to NYC tomorrow & won't be back until Monday morning.

Deb's sister is having a "destination" wedding in Central Park. Looking forward to the family catch up, the City, not so much !

The following Wednesday/Thursday, we will be camping for an "extended" long weekend !

This is the infamous Wabigoon Tavern, or what is left of it. In it's day it hosted more fights than The Montreal Forum, and Madison Square Garden combined. [Linked Image]

It rained pitchforks, and hammer handles this afternoon. We had friends in for supper, ham, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables.

Walleye chop - back troll over an 8' wide hump in 25' of water with a 1/64 oz. jig. (At least that's what they always say in the magazine articles.)

John, I'll those young bucks do whatever they want. It may be rougher than the photo appears, it looks more like a bad day on the lake to me, if not a funeral waiting to happen.

PS. wind gusts up to 60km, 36mph.

I was spoofing them - I'd be cozily holed up reading or playing cribbage.

Specks are biting—I got 5 yesterday. Got guys from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota in camp now and a big Lake Trout derby this weekend. I’m headed south to Missouri tomorrow for a family reunion but I’d really like to just stay home.

I believe it operates under another name now. Probably due to a change in ownership. Some of us hunted moose with them at one of their outpost camps back in the 1970's. The owners then came from Lindsay (southern Ontario) which is about 50 miles from where I live.

Question for Wabigoon. Was the mercury in the lake ever cleaned up? Back when we were going up into that area few people wanted to eat the walleye from Wabigoon Lake due to the contamination.

Yep, still called Bonny Bay, operated by Len & Nancy Davis, who are great people, for the last 15 years or so.

Pretty much always booked from season to season.

Jim, the mercury contamination issue, is in/from the river, which is below the lake & Mill & flows north towards the Grassy Narrows Reserve.

Couple of nice 'eye from the weekend.

Both solid 23" fish, 2 different lakes, 2 vastly different colourations !

This one, from our "usual lake", tannin stained.

[Linked Image]

This one from a new lake, almost clear water colour.
