Did Thompson ever produce a 12" barrel with a muzzle brake?

Dumb question, bur dumber if I don't ask it . I bought a contender in 1982. It has the "easy open" modification. Would this be considered a Gen 1or 2? What is the difference if I were looking to buy or sell a barrell.

Yes, I believe the Contender Hunter package was a 12” barrel with a muzzle break. It came with an illuminated optic scope , a sling and pistol rug.

Difference in barrels is zip. The grip has a different profile and grips/stocks are not interchangeable.

I am..........disturbed.

Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn't any. But this wrongs the jackass. -Twain

Yup, Hunters had the brake 12"
Can get new bbls at 12" w no brake (few chamberings).
IIRC they did 12" octagons for some TCA runs.

Found a .35 rem and .223 in Super 16 today.
Price was good.

Tempted.

A Contender is a Contender, a G2 is a G2.

Using the term G1 is just asking for confusion. wink

If I were you, I'd jump on those and stick them in a carbine configuration.

I had a Super 16 in carbine form.
Used G 2 forend and added some shot and epoxy to make it hold easy.
It just looked too funky.
Needed an 18.5" bbl IMHO

This combo of parts made into a nice little .410.

I have been collecting Contender barrels since I bought my 1st one in 1981. I once aspired to own one of each variation. I've given up on that theme because the variations are almost endless. They made 12" blued barrels both with and without sights. Stainless 12" barrels I think without. And without going back and looking at my old catalogs, I couldn't tell you in what order they made them. But here are the chamberings that they cataloged. I have or have had all of these, except the .45/.410 and the .357 Max. I have T/C catalogs all the way back to #1.

Order #----- Caliber
12"--- 4610 223 rem
12"--- 4620 7x30 Waters
12"--- 4640 .30/30 Win
12"--- 4630 .357 Max
12"--- 4650 .35 Rem
12"--- 4087 .375 Win
12"--- 4660 .44 Rem Mag
12"--- 4670 .45/70 Govt
12"--- 4086 .45/70 Govt
12"--- .45/410 VR

They also made 14" barrels with muzzle tamer in some chamberings, but I was never interested in those, so without looking I couldn't tell you which.

By the way: You could get in serious trouble with the BATF if you assemble a barrel shorter than 16" on a frame with a buttstock. Doing so would be viewed as a sawed off rifle. Rifles are illegal with barrels shorter than 16"
