I am a 58 year old type 2 diabetic with IBS. Overweight with my blood sugars a bit out of control. I also work in a medical department with a bunch of LPN's and RN's.

No matter what I eat someone is telling me that's not good for me for this or that reason. I can't live on dry salad because of the IBS. I can't live on a pure meat diet because of the diabetes and the fact that it's way too expensive. So the fruit I was eating, not good for me. The onions I love, not good for me for some reason. The green beans I eat, not good for me for some reason. On and on it goes.

Time to stop listening and do what I think is best. If it kills me in the end then so be it.

The older I become the more I am convinced that the voice of honor in a man's heart is the voice of GOD.

Good luck getting all that ironed out, no trouble here so far, kill it in the woods, grow it in a garden, yank it out of a creek or lake and eat, I never cared for sweets, up to and including the adult 'gummy' vitamin commercials. mad mad!!!!!

Baked goods are my downfall, especially cobblers. I am weak to that temptation.

Before I got married I lost 60 pounds. I did that by not entertaining temptation. If I don't buy it I only have to be tempted for a few seconds, if I buy it it is calling my name 24/7. The wife buys it than says, " Well don't eat it." , then leaves it on the counter or in the fridge.

That don't work too well for me.

Dang, Wifey makes a fruit salad with no sugar added, it's fruit after all, it's plenty sweet enough on it's own, there's one on the ice box here now, blackberries, strawberries, bananas, peaches, blueberries, and apple chunks, good stuff buddy.

1) Go to NETFLIX and watch "The Magic Pill".

2) Google "Ketogenic Diet".

3) Go to Facebook and join "The Low Carb Recipe Club".

This has done wonders for my wife. Main problem was her blood sugar had crept above borderline diabetes. Doctor said to get it down or go on meds. 3-4 months later it's back in the normal range and still falling. Plus she lost 10lbs in a month.

Ignore all outside advice, especially from a bunch of innanet 'spurts. Listen to your doctor and/or nutritionist.

If you ignore THAT advice, you are on your own.

I am a Type II Diabetic.

Was not watching my blood sugar, eating bad.

Almost died last August. Blood Sugar was high. Also had a nasty MRSA infection on the lower leg. Went to the clinic, luckily it is about 100 yards from the Hospital Emergency room. As soon as the nurse at the clinic checked my blood sugar, she and some helpers threw me into a wheel chair and hot footed me over to the Emergency Room.

Blood sugar level was 517 at the ER. Should be around 100.

After 8 hours in ER and 14 units of insulin, my blood sugar was 220.

The ER staff told me that if I had waited another day I would have been dead.

Three days later the doc pulled 80 CC's of nasty foul fluid out of my leg from the infection. The lab results showed a combination of a staph infection and MRSA.

Now, after medication and watching the diet, my blood sugar runs around 100 to 110 in the mid mornings. Perfect.

I cut out all sugars, fatty foods, kept the carbs down to a low level, no sweets, cake, pies, no soda of any type, including diets. No alcohol, wine, or beer. No ice cream. And I now read the labels of everything I buy at the grocery store: Some of the things I was eating should be outlawed due to the high sugar content!!!

Lost 45 pounds from sensible eating.

My practice on food now is: If foods were not available 200 years ago, I do not eat them.

No coffee!!! Caffeine suppresses insulin production in the pancreas and causes your blood sugar to be high. Those cups full of sugar and caffeine you buy at the coffee shops are pure poison.

So yea, with a sensible diet and avoiding sugars, you can do it.

To the OP, you need to go to a diabetes specialist and do what they say. And visit a health professional specializing in foods and diet for diabetics.

You will lose weight, eat right, and feel much better. I am 71 years old and feel great now and am very active. Before I was a lazy slug, due to the blood sugar being way out of control. And with the high blood sugar I was a cranky old bastard, hard to get along with, and in general a PITA to be around . Not now!!!

And get some exercise, calories in, calories out.
It’s just about that simple, but not easy for us oldsters.

Interesting. I remember reading the exact opposite a short time ago.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This

I was diagnosed type II 18 months ago.
Followed nutritionist advice, actually ate pretty well...just differently, lost 92 pounds down to one pill ( metformin) a day...all numbers in the green zone.....
Its not a stretch at all if you are willing to try new things ( whole grain stuff, fruits instead of sweets, no basketball sized sticky buns with a latte for a snack anymore....etc...)

A forum populated by brain-dead bubba's may not be the best place to go for accurate health care info.
