Well, if we dont want the Bad old Days to come back I will take it with a splash of water.
If I have to be around other people I will drink a ditch. Whiskey, an ice cube and a splash of water.
Other wise I drink straight whiskey too fast and all you do is wait for the other folks to be ready for the next round.
So yes, I have to crap it up a bit with some ice and water or I will drink the whole bottle in a few minuets and get in a fight with the guy with the cheese and a wine glass.
I am MAGA.

JD is too raw for me as straight sipping whiskey. It's one I don't mind polluting with water and even ice.

I love it straight.
Single barrel straight is even better.
Granted....I have not tried some of the higher end whiskey you guys have.

The JD Single Barrel I've had was a whole 'nuther animal. It's been years since I had some, but I did enjoy it as straight sipping whiskey. They must've cherry picked the good barrels for it, and/or let it age a while longer than the regular release.

No sure about JD tasting raw, to me it’s a little sweet.
But I have gravitated to drinking Scotch Whiskey over the years when drinking it straight.
Last time I was downing bottles of JD and getting onery was at NASCAR in 2003 when it was still the Winston Cup. 4 days of Bacchanalia in the RV encampment with thousands of other fans.
That was when I was introduced to home made Apple Pie in a mason jar.

That's the thing, I enjoy non chill filtered, barrel proof Laphroaig straight, but JD is just too rough tasting.

It's interesting how palates vary. In the Scotch world Cutty Sark is a blend on the weak end of the flavor spectrum.

Think you need a Tennessee Toddy.
That and four Advil is good medicine.

Speaking of Whisky........the state store had Bulleit on sale today...since I like Bourbon and Rye I bought both. As far as JD goes....I'll drink it with a splash (or two) if you're buying but if I'm buying I prefer 8yr Dickel for a Tennessee Whisky. Scotch?...I don't know how it happened but I've never tasted it so I don't know if I like it or not. And since this is still the food forum.....I'm finishing off some Great Northerns & Smoked Shank I pulled out of the freezer..... Bulleit Rye for desert.
