I was wondering if there is anyone making a levergun in 500 S&W? I know Wild West Guns has the Model 04 on their site but I called and they said they are not in production yet. The gentleman I talked to didn't have a time frame either. I have a Magnum Research BFR in 500 S&W and I really like it. I just think a levergun would be awesome. Thanks.

Haven't seen a levergun in the 500 S&W, but H&R has chambered it in a Handi rifle. From what I hear, the felt recoil is worse than a top 45-70 load.

The usual lever action rifles are not designed to chamber a 65,000PSI cartridge like the .500 S&W.
When I reviewed this cartridge when released, I opened the article by stating "it was the best lever action cartridge never chambered". At that time, we didn't know that the chamber rating was going to be increased and the primer pocket resized to fit large rifle primers, although I did actully determine that and commented so during my review, as I found out with the first reloads that somebody goofed.

Not 500 SW. Got em in 454 Casull and 480 Ruger though. http://www.legacysports.com/puma/index.htmI have the 454 16" stainless and am quite pleased.

I too have the Rossi / Puma 454 Casull (sans that STUPID safety lever on the bolt!) And I like mine a lot. The recoil is quite stiff with good loads but for its weight, length etc. it is a VERY effective package. I took it with me to Zimbabwe and everyone there wanted to trade me out of it. Only shot one Wildebeast and a guinea fowl with it but for chasing dogs or skulkng around in thick stuff it is wy cool.
I think the Rossi with its heavy duty bolt locks could handle this cartridge as easily as it eats up 454 Casull stuff.

I have looked at the Puma. I was under the impression that the 454 had higher pressure than the 500, so I was hoping that maybe the Puma would be chambered in 500 S&W. But it obviously never happened. I guess I'll just hope someone makes one someday. Maybe I should look at Lazzeroni's big bores!!!!

I am guessing that Brockman or someone else could take a Rosspuma 92 in 454 and open it up to work with the 500SW, but it would be Expensive. In the meantime,,, I dont know what you would want to hunt with a short lever carbine that you could not hunt happily with the 454 and shoot it until you had a nice fat concussion headache to boot! these things, when loaded with Cor BOns or Buffalo Bores 335's KICK!

It's not that big of a deal to me. I'm not going to pay anyone to customize a levergun for me. I just already have the handgun in 500 and I like the cartridge (and have brass and dies for it) so I thought it would be great fun to have a leveraction in the same cartridge. I am aware that a 454 would satisfy any hunting I will ever do.

Does anyone else remember that 2 years ago Marlin listed their big bore in 475 Linebaugh? It was quietly pulled from the website after a few months. I don't believe any were ever shipped. Have to think they weren't satisfied with the amount of material around the chamber for that pressure level.

Redo a Browning BLR.
I believe that WWG is doing one on the Marlin but then I wouldn't touch anything they ever made after the work I saw that they did on a Ruger #1 in 416 Rigby.
Personally I went with a 21" MGM barrel for my Encore frame so that I could have a short rifle and my S&W PC revolver in 500 S&W.

Suppose the TC Encore would be the easiest way to go. Still gotta be a HOOT!

I've also thought about the NEF Handi-rifle. It would get the job done but it just lacks the "feeling" you would get from a 500 leveraction. See what happens when you build something up in your mind? You start putting the word, feeling, in quotes. LOL

SOS I don't remember that one but I do remember Winchester doing something like that. They listed the M94 in .454 Casull but none were shipped as far as I know.
