Looks exactly like the holster I have for the 1873 Colt 45 I have.. except mine was made for a lefty..
7.5 inch barrel....

[quote=Think semi auto with a long thin barrel. Like a Colt 22auto.[/quote]
Or 6.5" High Standard .22?
I also had similar with a 7.5" 1858 Remington .44 in it.

Do they make a single six with a 6.5 inch barrel? If so, I am thinking this is close to the fit. The holster appears to show an ejector rod housing has been present on whatever pistol rode there earlier.
I have a single six with a 6.5 barrel and it's a no go Mike Interesting, Mike. Gun too small, I presume?

My last best guess is a Colt Official Police (or Army Special) with a 6 inch barrel.

I'm inclined to think maybe so. The man who's estate this came from had a Colt or three. I don't have a Colt in the house , got everything else though. I hardly ever see a Colt in the shops Mike

I believe there has been a single six in there for the last few years, but he says it isn't a good fit.

That should be enough to back the trigger guard out and make the retention strap snug.

Sure they did. The problem with those old holsters was not the holsters , it was people just cramming any old handgun into any old holster. People treated them like a "one size fits all" when they were never meant to be one size fits all. Redhead , Lawrence , Hunter , etc had a BUNCH of different models of holsters made to fit specific models of handguns. Mike

this is a whole new way to do things. buy the holster then look for a pistol. I have been guilty of it. My excuse is I am left handed, so when I run across a LH holster at a good price I buy it, eventually I will find something that will fit. I am not too picky, it goes in, doesn't look like ti will wear off too much blue, I am not too worried about the queeks draw feature.
those generic things now have velcro everythings to you can make almost any pistol not fit.

I see a lh holster at the flea market for $5 I can't pass that up can I ? I can always find a gun to fit it later. Even though this holster is right handed I feel like it deserves the handgun that fits it properly. Mike

Probably need a custom Freedom Arms revolver to fit it properly.

I’ve got one ( well, I used to have until I gave it to my Grandson ) and it held a S& W 686 pretty well.

I guess I'd start with a 2 1/2" model 66. Then a flat top .44. Don't forget a nice 1911, and maybe a sig P320 compact.
None of those fit? Try, try again...
Quite the approach you got going on...
