Don't know what kind of public access there is, or if landowner's allow free hunting, but $5 a pop isn't much incentive if overhead to hunt/trap is high. Sounds good in theory but ... Very little public access in that county. I think there are two small parcels that are open to dove hunting but that's about it. I can't see very many more being shot there than there already are.

I was Axis hunting this month near Junction and a couple young guys were in the BBQ joint I was at so we started visiting. After taliking to them I found out they were from North Texas and had been Helo hog hunting for the last two days and it was incredible the hogs they had piled up. This is one control method that is expensive and effective!

Right now, trapping the whole sounder in large pen traps is the most effective hog control method.
Gunning from a chopper is effective, but not so much in trees. More geared to farmland and open spaces.
I bet there are more hogs hunted and killed in Texas than any other state... But the population is still growing. Hell, it ain't even slowing down.

This is one control method that is expensive and effective! I believe it. My buddy hired a heli to do some hog eradication on his place and the neighbors, and yours truly smacked over 60 of the vermin in two days. He and his son killed at least twice that many. There's no way I'd allow public access to a bunch of taday's morons.

Lots of people will do it for free If they had access.
I doubt many landowners care about $5. You're right. They're more interested in shanking the hunters with a "trophy" fee. Screw them.

I'd rather have the hogs than idiots shooting my pastures up. I take care of my own hog problems. I don't lease land to deer hunters either. Seeing what hunters do on public hunting land has caused me to go from "maybe" to flat "No". Friends or someone I know don't pay anything. If I don't know someone, they don't get permission. I don't need the liability either, if one shoots the other, or has an ATV accident.

Most people are nothing but a bunch of screwups anyway, much less when you put a gun in their hands.

We dont have a hog problem, just raccoons. I have gotten 7 this year and have been getting one per week or so. Dont laugh! Since I started killing the coons I started seeing rabbits all over the place. I like rabbit hunt'n and have chickens so the coons get trapped all summer.

Fayette county pays for something, ears or tails depending on their mood. Have for quite some time.

I’ve trapped them hard on my lease. It’s fun but I don’t think I’m thinning them out much.
