As some of you know I have a CVA Hawken .50 Caliber with a 1-48 twist. I was wondering if anyone has used a .50 Caliber for squirrel? I would be using a round ball and FFG Elephant BP. Since I'm new to muzzle loading any suggestion as to a load would be helpful.

I do most of my squirrel hunting with a 32 caliber but have been known to pop one on occasion with my 54 caliber when the deer did not cooperate.

In my opinion a squirrel rifle has to have the ability to produce at worst a clover-leaf 3-shot group at 25 yards. Ideally, you would see just one hole at 25 yards.

There are alot of things that can/do affect the accuracy of a muzzleloader shooting roundball. To better understand this I would suggest you do a search on one of the big search engines for a guy named Dwight Schoultz. He has come up with a system that has been turning so-so shooters in to winners.
