Yeah, little bit of relief here today, but the weekend was like working in a fireball !

Probably should have hooked up the camper, turned on the air conditioner & slept in there !!

We had the house AC set to 70, it felt like an ice box in there.

I feel like I'm buttin' in on this thread, but, if you think Dryden is hot Paul, and it may well be, we were not used to the humidly when we got back to Iowa.

It's so humid, we don't bother drying our clothes after warshing em anymore. We just put our wet clothes on straight out the warsh'n machine and head outside. Dry clothes end up wit within 30 seconds anyways, why bother?

Good evening, all. Just checking in infrequently as I have been doing. Had about 12 pages to catch up on. It is hot here in South Carolina but low humidity here lately so it isn't too bad.
Tzone , please relay belated happy birthday wishes to Jack as I seem to have missed his special day.
Looks like everyone is enjoying the outdoor activities. I hope the balance of the summer is enjoyable also.
In a few days I will cross the 77 mark. Getting old is bearable but you have to face giving up certain things. This year I have decided that I will hunt no more.
I may have mentioned this once before on here. I know I will miss it. The thrill of the hunt is still there it is just the ability to carry thru that is lacking.
I will check in again in a few days.

Stan in SC

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

Happy Birthday Stan! And many more!

Don't you dare give up hunting. Do what you can, where you can, when you can. Methinks a new 45-70 might be in order to get er done. Plenty of help available here and from friends who I'm sure would love to help drag and gut for you. All you have to do is ask.

p.s. My gramps deer hunted until he was 92. Shot a doe that year too. Open sights. Marlin 336-C 30-30. He was pretty proud of that deer... as we all were. He'd a hunted at 93, but he didn't make it that far. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I hope Stan makes it out this fall, and for many fall's to come. 'Gotta keep the old guns in camp if the young guns want to learn the ropes. Stan's welcome to join me any time.

Hi Jeff,

I’ve been tapping Ryan’s brain and bugging the crap out of him for about 4 years now. I’m sure he’s sick of me. I’m trying not to get too excited about it because of my last 4 years of success rates. laugh

When I find out the results I’ll call the SDF&G and the National Park Service to get a few maps. So far I think I’m going to check around the Custer area but I’m 100% to suggestions.
I think the best advice Ryan gave me so far is walk, walk, walk, and shoot! I do have a range I can shoot out to 300 at as well as clear cuts I can get out further if needed.

If you have any advice on terrain, food, cover, and gps coordinates of a 125”+ 10 pt you know of....PM me. I’m like Ross Perot, all ears! grin

You've already done what I would do, and that is get local knowledge from Ryan. Might also be worth it to contact the local biologist and/or game warden. I have good results with the Wyoming guys in the past. We were out in Hill City last year for a quick family trip. Our favorite part was driving the back roads thru Custer Park near dark looking at the deer.

I'm pretty excited my self. Going to Colorado in Sept for a drop camp muzzleloader elk hunt! I need to do some more shooting and get in a bit better shape.
