Can someone educate me on the savage 99? Saw one in 308 today and was intrigued. It looked to be in good shape with a cheap scope for 399.00 what do y'all think?

I prefer classic.

Tend to be reasonably accurate and great hunting tools so long as not abused. Delightful rifle to carry. Price stated is pretty reasonable so long as the rifle is in good condition.

Not sure which model it is. I didn't know there were so many variations til I got on the internet tonight. It does have the safety by the lever, walnut stock and brass colored round counter.

No one has mentioned and you haven’t said anything about this but...

IF you haven’t seen the Thread in Deer Hunting forum, I suggest you check it out.
There are quite a few pix of diff model 99s.

Right now the thread is on P 1 of Deer Hunting forum.

I’ll tell you what kind it is. If the furniture and bluing are in good shape and case coloring still on the lever, it is the kind that should follow you home at that price! Happy Trails

Savage 99 is a heck of a rifle, maybe the most accurate repeating lever ever made ,bullets on the cartridge don`t get damage because cartridges don`t go in a tube like many other levers. that`s a good buy if gun works you can`t go wrong, most people have no ideal how good of rifle a Savage 99 is.i like the 99`s with the safety in the lever better but both on great rifles. Matter fact I am actually buying a 243 Savage 99 on Monday, I thing 99`s is probably one of the most over looked rifles ever made. Pete53

Looking for some help on a scope mount for a Savage 99 that I have found that is in really great condition. It looks to be a Chicopee Rifle, early fifties, I do not want to drill it, if nothing else I would put a peep in the existing holes, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Back in my gun of the month phase, I had a couple of 99F in ..243 and .300 Savage that I actually hung on to for a f years. They were both accurate. Why I don't have them? A kid in college and I couldn't keep everything that I wanted and I switched to M70 Featherweights. I would still latch on to a decent .250-300 or .300 takedown or a .308F, if I stumble into one at a decent price.

IMO, they are time tested rifles.

I saw more 99's in one store, Barnes/500 guns. On east Apple east of Muskegon, Mi.
That was in the late 90's.
