Austin. Really? Maybe on the positive side, it may dilute the liberals some there? Army Chooses Austin as Site for Futures Command Headquarters
WASHINGTON --
Austin, Texas, will be the location for the headquarters of the new U.S. Army Futures Command, Army Secretary Mark T. Esper announced today at a Pentagon news conference. Mobile rocket launcher fires during a test.
Army Undersecretary Ryan D. McCarthy then explained the details. He said the process started with 150 metropolitan areas, narrowed down to five. Besides Austin, officials considered Boston; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; and Philadelphia.
McCarthy said he and an advance team visited each of those five cities and met with city leaders, congressional delegations, private-sector entities, and university faculty and staff. All of those, he said, were "tremendously welcoming and accommodating to our team."

Austin is the ideal place to host the new "queer for your gear" Army.

Ft Hood could have for sure, but Austin is a hostile environment. Put HQ at Hood. Easy enough.

Highly Technical stuff, I reckon. You know.. Like stuff the Russians did to the DNC. And what the CIA does in about every election we may even hold a small interest in.

Futures Command?
What is that exactly? Seems to be something along the line of new system technology and acquisitions. There's a reason to not have it on a bigger base if you're going to be dealing a bunch with the civilian sector. And a snippet below. Again it seems to be an acquisitions type thing, COTR's etc. But that's just from a quick read or two. "As part of Futures Command, the Army will create “cross-functional” teams focused on specific things the service wants to improve. Each team will include about 25 people, and be based in an area typically associated with the skill involved. For instance, the team focused on the Army’s next-generation combat vehicle will call the automotive hub of Detroit home, and the team focusing on making individual soldiers more deadly will be based at Fort Benning, Ga., where the Army has a few schools focused on ground combat"

Fort Hood is north and Ft. Sam Houston is south, Ft. Bliss is west and Red River Army Depot is east. That pretty much puts it in the middle. I think the local Austin airport is joint use with the Texas Air Guard and there used to be an active Air Force base in Austin. It sounds like a good location to me.

kwg The present airport location in Austin is the old Bergstrom AFB location.
