Anybody have the new Hornady 7th edition? Looking for load data for the 154gr IB in 7mm rem mag using H4831, RL22 or 7828.

Seating depth?

Thanks

Can't tell you seating depth, I seat mine kissing the lands.

Start with R-22 at about 64-65grs. Somewhere around 68-69 should be max. I've shot 70grs, but I thought it to be a tad warm.

Ive never shot H4831 in my 7mmRM, but the Hodgdon site gives a max load if 64grs for both the 162 Hornady and a 140 BT. Go figure huh? I also find their data to be very conservative...but that ought to give you something to work with and start from.

Thanks for the reply .280Rem

Just received the 154gr 7mm rem mag Load data from Hornady: Here is what they show for Max (7th Edition)

H4831 61gr/2800fps column
RL22 63.4gr/2900fps " "
7828 65.5gr/2900fps " "

3 powders listed in the 3000fps column are:
VV N560 65.7gr
WIN WMR 67.7gr
RL25 71.3gr

I did little testing last year 154IB/66gr RL22 showed promise, seated .010-.015 in my rem mag. Not stellar accuracy - 1"/100. I have yet to run this load across a chrono though, just ran out of time. I will be working up my partners new 7mm rem mag, he is sure the 154IB is for him...we'll see.

Antleraddiction,

Follow Hornady's loads.

Max loads for the 7mmRM have gone down a bit the last few years.

I was interested in the 154IB's myself so I loaded various loads from the Hornady book and these were my results:

Rem M700 Stainless SPS 26"bbl/Win brass/Fed 215's/60 degrees(F)

63gr R-22: 3 shots avg. 2906fps(2.5" group)
66gr R-22: 3 shots avg. 3031fps(4.5" group)
70.5gr R-25: 3 shot avg. 3126fps(.75 group)
71.5gr R-25: 3 shots avg. 3229fps(.5" group)

This ruled out R-22 in my rifle because of poor velocity and very poor accuracy. R-25 is awesome with the heavier bullets. These loads were worked up to in my gun and may not be safe in others though I saw no pressure signs. The 71.5gr R-25 load did an average of 3188fps in a friends 24" tube.

Thanks I have been thinking about trying RL25. I have hearing lots of got stuff about it as of late in the 7mm rem mag and your post helps further the need!

Like I mentioned I never chrono'd that load just had a few here and worked upto 66gr of RL22. In my gun they didn't show any pressure signs and shot the best, but I didn't shoot enough to get a true read either.

I will eventually need good load data for 160's when I finally finish a 7mm RM project. Looks like RL25 is a good place to start.

AA,

FWIW...Hornady Fourth Ed. says 65.6 is max with 154. (For comparison the same manual says 66.0 is max for 162s...so go figure)

The most recent Lyman manual lists a max load of 67grs of R-22 under a 154 Interbond at near 3100fps.

As you can see, book data is a reference, not a hard and fast rule.

.280rem, the Lymans (48th) is part of what I used when working with the 154gr last year.

RL25 availability is an issue here, only found 2 lbs & different lot #'s(no one seemed to interested to tell me for sure they'd be getting more). So at this point RL25 is a no go. What about H1000(pretty close to RL25)? Stock is plentiful for Hogdgon powders here. I've seen quite bit said about H1000 for 160 & up. I suppose Retumbo, a little slower than rl25 may also work but I haven't heard as much about its use in the Rem Mag.
