The biggest complaint with the Base Camp filter is that the cartridges plug up. So, don't use the filter. Take your plugged filter and cut if off just above the plastic and put it back in the bag. Then get a Sawyer PointOne filter and put it in the hose just under the bag. It fits in the 1/4" hose perfectly and it's a one time purchase. When it plugs, just back flush it with the syringe that comes with it. It's cheaper than the Katadyn filter and has a lifetime warranty. It also has a much faster water flow.
